My daughter is taking ACT In JUne its $28 for ACT test and 34 stanby fee total $68. If she has to take the Writing part is another $14 =$82. You are not guaranteed a spot on test date.

Is it worth $82 in June or $28 in October

Is she taking the June SAT or the SAT II's.

Is she applying to schools where she will need to take the SAT II's?

Once she gets to the site, she can switch her test if that is what you wish (from SAT to SATII's). She could and take the SAT II's that correlate with what she has taken this term. Depending on the school she applies she may ned some SAT II's.

In my humble opinion, she should definitely take the ACT in June so it could give her a better idea of where she stands (the ACT is more correlated to what they have actually learned in school. She may end up doing better on the ACT than the SAT. (the ACT score can be converted to a SAT score). If she needs to retest than she has the summer to be come more familiar with the test and work on increasing her scores.

You should also research post by Xiggi concerning prepping for the SAT.

"Once she gets to the site, she can switch her test if that is what you wish (from SAT to SATII's)."

Are you sure this is possible? I thought that there is a price difference.

"The reality is that, even with preparation, most students are not going to improve their test scores much beyond their expected ability that has been developed over an entire educational career.

"

Of course, they can't improve the score beyond their ability, but they can improve their scores up to their optimal ability. If the D has not known how to take the test in the best way, then her scores would be depressed under what her ability really is.

Virtually every student whom I have met who did well on the SAT did major prep for it -- whether or not they called what they did major prep. Most also took the SAT more than one time, often starting as early as 7th grade.

In my opinion, it's a mistake to act as if the D's scores now reflect her true capabilities. She needs a chance to review her test report to find out what she did wrong so that she can avoid the same mistakes next time. My S learned a lot by doing this.

She also could benefit by using a review book or a review site.

The things that would be "common sense" to people who have done review courses or who come from very sophisticated high schools where many students score above 1500 on the SAT would not be common sense to her because she has probably not been surrounded by people with accurate knowledge about the SAT.

Many black students, for instance, view doing well as a matter of luck, not preparation.

This is why I suggest that she take the test again -- after doing some major prep. If what caused her low scores were pacing problems or skipping questions when she wasn't 100% sure of the answer, she may be able to raise her score 100 points or so by following some of the tips that I mentioned before.

The students who are likely to gain the most on a retake of the SAT are those with the lowest scores.

The college board just bills you for the difference. Even if you want to change or add SAT II's once you get on site it is doable. (D did it and got billed for the difference)

i want to cancel my SAT 2 in Math 2C and just focus in the ACT.

If you are finishing a math class that is related to math 2c and if your fall coursework does not relate to that math, the time to take the 2C is in June, when the material is still very fresh in your mind.

You also should take in June the SAT II tests for any other courses that you'll complete junior year. For example, if you're completing your last chemistry class, take the SAT II in June.

paulchem:

Use Barrons book for math II C. Prepare for the exam in summer time and see what happens. Do not give up so early. Ask a teacher or fellow student to give you some guidance. What is the use of good education if one cannot share with you?

I'll take the math 2c and Chemistry in October

She is taking Sat 2 math II c on JUne 4 and ACT on June 11 (hopefully since we are on standby)

With that course load and that number of activities, if grades are good she could have a shot at those harder to get into private colleges/universities, even mabye ivy league

Now she has a list of colleges

SUNY Stonybrook, Bingington, Albany
CUNY Hunter
Syracuse University
University of Rochester
NYU
Boston University
Cornell ALS
