anybody know how minority status affects admit rate at Princeton? just curious...

Princeton openly admits that it looks for ethnic diversity, so it certainly helps to be an underrepresented minority. If you're Asian, then that's a whole another story...

thats good then. you must be asian...is it that asians are not considered complete minority anymore? in any case i dont think asians are 'underrepresented' at princeton

Asians are an overrepresented minority, so apparently there's no advantage whatsoever in being Asian. In fact, it's considered even a disadvantage.

that sucks. at least im not asian......jk =)

It doesn't suck once the Asian actually makes it in :)

but of course, there are different nationalities of asians. Indians, Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese and usually the overrepresented minorities.

Yeah that's true. If you're from Mongolia, Laos, Cambodia, etc, it might not be a problem. But that's probably <5% of the Asian population applying to Ivies.

haha, tsunamisha are you actually in? i hate how they list every single country in east asia as a seperate nationality (although they are) but other underrepresented ethnicities are just 'other' or grouped under something else

Yep, I'm a Tiger all right.

nice job! apparently being asian didn't hurt you.

i am asian as well... :) (I got in) So, don't worry too much about admissions

holy crap seems like everyone on these boards has gotten in ED. ......i wanted to do ED but circumstances conspired against me

yes, hobbes, but being from AK probably made you an "underrepresented minority," anyway ;)

Actually, sicarii, most of the people on this board were deferred (including yours truly). They just don't post as often. (And in some cases, not at all.)

hahaha kebree, true true.

hmmm i wonder how many people applied from Houston....that HAS to be an underrepresented area. jk

Julian (Bokonon) got in from Houston.

Hehe...that made me smile for some reason.

i got accepted from TX, about 1.5 hours outside of houston.
and yes, being a URM definately helps you in admissions
and no, asians are definately not URM's

man..this makes me kinda sad. I'm asian (Indian) and on top of that I come from a super competitive county in Maryland. :( oh well.
