Mip

Can anybody tell me everything you know about MIP's?
(process of getting it off record, what if you're only 17, affecting loans, etc)

I doubt it affects loans at all. Shoot, half the kids at many of the Universities in Michigan have them around here. They like to hand them out like candy at Halloween to the poor kids. That is one good thing about U of M-not so aggressive on MIP’s.

I wouldn’t have gotten one if I was 18 at the time, but I was 17 at the time, so the security officers said that under law, they had to call the police and the ambulance.
The police officer didn’t breathalize me, but he did do a test where he held his finger and moved it left to right.
On the ticket, on descriptions, all it says is vomit.

My friends are telling me that I should fight the case, saying that they had no proof of anything, by going to the university student legal services, because they did not breahtlize me, etcetc…

Were you guilty? I suppose you’ll say, “that’s not the point”.

I wouldn’t dismiss the seriousness of an MIP. I would suggest talking to the student legal services at a mininum and would consider hiring an attorney if your family can afford one. I would assume GPeace was drinking which is more reason why he needs to find some help.

“Were you guilty? I suppose you’ll say, ‘that’s not the point’.”

Because it’s not… there’s nothing wrong with fighting a criminal charge against yourself

Fight it if there was no test done.

Did this happen at U of M?

Definitely fight it if there’s no proof.

Yes it was at the U of M.
Yes I know this is a big deal, but people are telling me how many students get MIPs and that as long as I don’t keep messing up, I’ll be fine.
I"ve seen a lot of people completely messed up ending up in their dorms without any problems.
Yes I was guilty.
Yes people are telling me to fight it.
Yes I did learn my lesson about alcohol.
I don’t ever want to receive an MIP again.

I am going to go to the student legal services and see if there’s any way I can fight it.
If I can’t, I"ll have to go represent myself alone and say I’m guilty and that I’ll take the consequences to get it off my record.

The only proof they did have was me stating that I had 3 cups of beer. Which will and can be used against me; however, there was no breathalyzer. The only thing under “BAC” written was vomit.

^Well if they gave you your miranda rights before that you’re screwed.

An MIP is not a big deal… and saying that you learned your lesson about alcohol and then immediately following it with “I don’t want another MIP again” shows that you didn’t learn your lesson with alcohol… there’s no lesson to be learned about alcohol if you get an MIP, the only lesson is don’t get caught. It’s college for ****'s sake. An MIP in college is as bad as a really fast speeding ticket… actually it puts less people in harm than that.

You’re only 17. It gets wiped off your record COMPLETELY when you turn 18. I’m pretty sure you can get another MIP when you turn 18 and have the same consequences (i.e. go through the First Offenders program) as if it was your first MIP. QQ, you’ll be fine, it’s not a big deal, especially if youre under 18

Have you told your parents? I would suggest you talk to them before you “go represent myself alone and say I’m guilty”.

Its not like my parents can fly 5-10 hours to come here…lol

Yeah but they will probably have some good advise…older and wiser.

Thats why im going to student legal services…my parents dont know much about the laws here…

Do you go under the names of thehineseman and gpeacetea?

im pretty its the same person, lol. he just made another thread about korean haircut under the chinese name
