Missed an AP Exam. Help!

Okay, so on the day of the AP Stats test, I got really sick the hour before. I couldn’t keep my head up and I started vomiting so my friends took me home. My school isn’t allowing me to make up the exam so I just blew $92. However, I already SIR’d to my college but I don’t know if I have to call them and tell them I missed an AP exam. My classmates and I have always heard that if we don’t take the exam, we don’t get AP credit. We assumed they meant AP CLASS credit, like towards your GPA, but I don’t think that’s the case. We assumed that if you miss an AP test, your AP class turns into honors but I asked my VP and she said she’s never heard that. Anyway, while I’m waiting on what my counselor has to say on this stuff on Monday, I’m wondering if missing an AP exam will get my letter rescinded and if my AP stats will turn into Honors stats. I’m freaking out!!

Missing an AP exam does not change the class. It will still be an AP class, and you will still get the same GPA points that you would usually get with an AP class. By saying if you don’t take the AP exam you don’t get credit, they mean you aren’t able to earn credit for college. If you get a high enough score on your AP exam, some colleges allow students to apply that credit to their classes or help place out of certain classes. For example, if you took the AP Stats exam and got a 4 or 5, some schools will allow you to fulfill a math credit or place into a higher level class. However, because you did not take the exam, you don’t have the opportunity.

When it comes to you informing the school about this, did you previously tell you were going to take the Stats exam? If not, I don’t think you have to I don’t think, it kind of depends on the school’s policies. Also, on where or not you will get your letter rescinded, that also depends on the school’s policy. Some schools are really strict. But generally, I don’t think a school will rescind your letter for missing an exam.
