So, I missed my bowdoin interview for no other reason than that I simply forgot. I told this to my interviewer and was apologetic; we rescheduled to a later date. I feel pretty bad and vehemently irresponsible. Is this the type of thing that would keep me out if I’m on the bubble in terms of admission?

Eh, probably not.

Runner83 – I don’t think it would keep you out if you were on the bubble, but I recommend writing a particularly nice personal note to the interviewer after the interview(not just an e-mail if you have an address to mail a note to-- or write a note as a Word document and e-mail it) to thank him/her. Whether the interviewer will mention your lapse to Admissions or emphasize it may be determined by how much of an inconvenience it was to the interviewer for you not to show and how convincing you are in demonstrating that this oversight was out of character for you. (Or, if you really are a “ditz,” that you are so brilliant Bowdoin should be drooling to admit you : -) ) Good luck!

That was not the best idea to miss your interview. When you go to the interview, apologize, then send a letter through mail thanking the interviewer for taking their time to interview you. But Bowdoin is a very open school and may overlook it.

Good luck!

There is nothing that you can do about it now. You already apologized so the best you can do is put your best foot forward from this point on. Show up early to the rescheduled interview. The failure to attend the interview to me suggests either that you are not responsible or that you are not seriously interested in attending Bowdoin (if it were the top school on your list I doubt you would have forgotten about the interview). When you meet the interviewer, it will help if you demonstrate this is not the case. The most important thing is to be yourself.

To assure all other nervous applicants

The interview is the last thing they look at when determining your offer here.
Unless you are weird or evil, you will be fine. Just go to the second interview.

Thanks for the insight guys. For anyone interested, I did make that second interview and I was admitted ED 2.

Congrats Runner83! Happy to hear it worked out so well. It’s a terrific school.
