So basically I put Bowdoin on last minute before the ALUMNI interview deadline, and requested alumni interview (still haven’t gotten a response). Anyways, at that time I didn’t know the on-campus interview existed. Did I screw myself over? Is it worth emailing admissions explaining my situation (or including this on the application) or even seeing if I can still get an alumni interview?
You should probably interview in-person. Bowdoin cares a lot of about personal attention to detail and interest in the college. My recommendation is to interview in person. If you’re interested in getting interview prep, I office specific services for this and can give you coaching on how to bring out your best self for the interview. Don’t fret there is still time.
“Bowdoin cares a lot of about personal attention to detail and interest in the college.”
Contrary to what the previous poster said, according to section C7 of Bowdoin’s Common Data Set (https://www.bowdoin.edu/ir/pdf/cds2016-17.pdf), Demonstrated Interest is “Not Considered” and an interview is only “Considered” (as opposed to important or very important).
No big deal- if you’ve asked for one, they’re probably just finding an alumni to give you an interview. I wouldn’t register for an on campus (and it’s a bit late for that anyways) after requesting an alumni interview (usually colleges want only one of those, not both).
I actually disagree with hope469, I wouldn’t just read the public data set and declare that’s end all be all. That’s like reading a company quarterly earnings report and saying I know everything about the company when in fact there is much more going on behind the scene.
As someone who worked in the admissions office previously, I can tell you what actually counts and doesn’t, and it does matter. Putting one’s best self forwards counts for a lot.
The problem is that I they no longer offer on campus ones at this time.
Go with the Alumni interviewer, it should make a good impression. If you need interview coaching let me know.
