The deadline to be considered for the NJ state TAG (Tuition Aid Grant) award was June 1st, 2017. This deadline was for renewal applicants, meaning those who had received TAG awards the previous academic year. Since first time applicants have a much later deadline, I did not know about this renewal deadline because I filed my FAFSA much later into the summer the first year I received an award. Ultimately, I am desperately seeking advice or any input as to what can be done about missing the state grant deadline. I filed my FAFSA June 12, 2017 so I only missed the deadline by a week and half.
I cannot stop thinking about losing this award and how much of a financial burden this can be for me but especially on my family. Thank you for your time.
If you are dependent on FA you need to file your FAFSA earlier. It was available in October and used 2015 tax information which should have been available for a while.
If you wait until June then SEOG, federal work study, if you qualify with your EFC, might have been all given out already. Pell you will still get because it’s an entitlement (if your EFC qualifies), and student loans.
Contact NJ state aid office today and see if anything can be done. How much TAG did you get last year? Since the FAFSA used 2015 info for 2016/17 and 2017/18, the EFC was probably similar.
