I posted this in the National Mertit Scholarship section, but I am hoping that by posting this question here as well I may get more response.

My son will be a sophomore this Fall. We just received the 2012-2013 Fin Aid letter which includes the NMF scholarship. I was confused at first, but when I looked at the NMF website, there was a paragraph about having sent out letters in March (and then April, if March was missed) for renewal. This is news to me! I had no idea this scholarship was renewable and we did not receive any letters that I can recall. Now I am in a bit of a panic since we may loose this very much needed money. Has anyone had this experience? Any luck with getting this sorted out? Thanks!

When my daughter was receiving a NM scholarship, she did have to sign a form every year indicating that she would continue to be enrolled at her school the following year. You need to call NM and find out what you need to do.

Some NMF scholarships are one time only awards. The other type usually come from the schools.

Yes- Call NMF. They’re very nice and helpful. My D had a corporate scholarship which we did not realize she could use during summer sessions when she was enrolled full-time. Since we did not know about it, we never applied for it and did not receive it. However, her senior year we learned that she was eligible for two previous summer terms. NM asked us to send documentation that she was enrolled full-time those summers and then they released awards for those past terms. It was a nice surprise because we thought we’d missed out on it.
