Missed Scholarship Deadline

So, I have a friend from Korea that has been living here in Alabama for over 10 years. He applied to Alabama well before the scholarship deadline, but his application got trapped in limbo because the University couldn’t decide whether he was an international or in-state student. While this was occuring, he wasn’t able to access the scholarship application because they had not accepted him yet. They finally accepted him as an in-state student in late December, but the scholarship deadline had passed. Ever since, he has been trying to get in contact with someone who can help him get a scholarship, but they keep running him around in cricles at the University, and he hasn’t found anyone who can help him. The only reason he couldn’t apply for scholarships was because the Universtiy took so long accepting his application. Does anyone know if there is any way he can get a scholarship. If so, who does he need to contact?

If he hasn’t already, I would contact Carolyn Rogers in the scholarship department at 1-800-933-2262. He should also contact his regional admissions counselor again. If he did qualify for one of the automatic scholarships, he should be awarded it. Generally with these situations, it makes sense to go higher up until somebody listens to your complaint. if he was not eligible for one of the automatic scholarships, idk what they could do.

Thanks for your help, and he definitely qualified for the automatic scholarships. He got a 31 ACT.

Your friend misunderstood. You don’t have to be accepted to the school to apply for scholarships. You can apply for scholarships 2-3 days after applying (after got his follow-up email with his CWID # and log on info). Since I’ve helped several int’l students, I know that these follow up emails quickly come for those students, too…no delays for CWID and logon info.

That said, contact Carolyn Rogers thru email (don’t call, you’ll just get a person who can’t help you).

When contacting these ladies, your friend needs to apologize for misunderstanding that he could/should have applied for scholarships before he was accepted. He needs to just say that he misunderstood and thought that he had to be accepted first.
