so you stil haven't contacted him?
You should have done so as soon as you realized you missed it.
give a clear explanation without making excuses ASAP and cross your fingers

Maybe the test is tomorrow and we are still in rough draft.....you know in preparation for the event???? hehehehe

I just emailed him. Thanks for the help.

When are final grades usually recorded for the first semester? If the professor doesn't respond until after the winter break, could he still change the grades?

When are grades for the first semester recorded? Once they're recorded, could they ever be changed if you take a make-up exam?

Example (uva policies): grades are generally recorded within the week after the last exam. Once a grade is submitted it can not be changed except if there was a transcription error.

A prof may submit an I and once the exam is made up he will submit the score and your transcript is updated. This is generally not a problem.

If you got a grade of 'I', can you still take higher level classes for which that one course was a pre-requisite if you already registered for that class?

I don't know. Somehow I doubt it. And if you didn't do so hot in the prereq, why would you take a upper level course in the area? Does your school have a webpage listing of academic policies?
