Missing first week of school?

For the longest time i thought school started on Sept 9 this year. My dad has a business trip to Europe and the whole family is coming along. We booked everything already and planned to come back on Sept 8 the day before school. But we just found out school starts on Sept 4! Now my parents are mad at me for thinking it started on Sept 9 and are threatening to cancel the trip! They are afraid of the work i will be missing since i will be a sophomore. I am taking AP world, AP bio, CP chem, H eng 10, Band, H Precalc, and H french 3. How much work will i be missing? The first day is just a half day so i will be missing 3 1/2 days of school. How can i convince my parents not to cancel the trip?

I don’t think workwise you will miss anything you can’t make up. However, you will miss the “opening remarks”, so to speak, in each class- these set the tone and expectations of each teacher and are extremely important as they go over the syllabus. If possible, try to set up a meeting with each teacher either before school begins- they may start early and you can get a headstart on reading assignments while you are away- or immediately when you return. You need to find out about turning in homework, quizzes, exams, etc…

I doubt there’d by any exams the first week of school but you should still plan ahead!!!

When I go on a trip and miss several days of school I get ahead in all my classes. I take all my tests and quizzes early and complete all the homework and classwork assignments. You should do that too.
