Missing the first week of school...

My dad is taking my family on a hunting trip in Canada the first week of school. I will be in school the first day and then I miss the next 6 days. My school limits vacation periods to 5 days so one day will have to be Unexcused and i will not be able to make up work from this day. I'm planning on the 2nd day to be Unexcused. Since there would be the least amount of work this day.

Any tips for catching up after missing So much school in the beginning of the year. I'm not sure if I can get my work ahead of time since the first day will be hectic for teachers and I will not be able to bring anything with me or use my phone to contact friends about school work.thanks!

I’m a rising sophomore in the US btw

how much work could possibly be given the first week of school…

My schedule isn’t that bad. My school only has like 2 APs that you can take junior and senior year so this is as good as it gets. I have the following:
Chem honors periods 1 and 2
3 accounting
4 French 3
5 comm lit 2 honors
6 world studies
7 physics honors
8 alg 2 honors

I don’t think it’ll be too bad. Of course, you’ll have a busy couple of days once you come back but nothing too important will happen during the first week. Just pace yourself; your teachers will probably give you at least a couple of days to make up what you missed, so as long as you stay focused it might not be that bad.

I missed the entire first week last school year and had 5 AP’s and 1 honor class. Not a very good first impression, but not that essential.

It’s not a big deal, you don’t do a lot the first week of school (ever). A lot of intro material/going over requirements for the class is really all that happens. That being said I personally would not miss that much school for a hunting trip.

Your school is making you take one of those days as unexcused…? I’ve never heard of a school doing that before. Regardless, I think it won’t be that big of a deal as it’s only the first week.

I’m not really happy about it either I hate missing any school. I’m kind of freaking out. I wasn’t really given a choice in the matter because he wants to make “memories” while everyone is sti ll at home and before he gets to old.

Yes, you can only have one vacation a year and it’s limited to 5 days. It won’t be approved if it’s longer and then the whole thing will be unexcused.

What does the rest of your family think? I think it is absurd to force your child to miss school (I understand his reason but he should of scheduled it earlier)…

That is the first week of the season. My younger siblings don’t care really. My dad thinks I’m to uptight about missing school. It will be 6 of us me, my dad, younger brother and sister, cousin that’s my age, and my uncle.

The first two days aren’t ever anything. The third day is usually when the work begins and after that there is just more and more work. Maybe you can go to the school before the first day and ask for your work. Or get your work on the first day. But teachers usually like to have an advance notice so that they can get your work ready.

We notified the school before last year ended. The principal talked to me and said it was okay but I couldn’t get work until school started bc they don’t finalize it until the last week of summer. However ican get my books early. Would this be a good idea? I’m just afraid they wi ll overlook it and I won’t get any work the first day an be screwed when I get back. The teachers here don’t even acknowledge your absence so you just have to figure it out yourself.
