Due to a conflict, D will not be able to attend the big admitted student’s day coming up shortly. I realize this isn’t the end of the world, we are trying to go to a “regular” tour for admitted students sometime in April.
For those who have attended, will she miss out on a lot? What was it like?
She attended a CoE Open House last summer but didn’t get to go on the normal tour of campus.
I enjoyed admitted students day, but my daughter was very undecided and so we attended three to help her make up her mind. It was helpful.
That being said, how close is your daughter to a decision, what other schools are in play, has she visited all of the others, attended other admitted student days, etc. I am sure she got a good feel for the school at the CoE open house. I don’t think they do normal campus tours on admitted student days (I remember a dorm tour that day - but that was 7 years ago).
She is undecided as of today, but has narrowed her list to NEU and Case Western. She has visited both - and is very intrigued with the idea of co-ops and loves Boston.
She has not attended any admitted school days yet (most in April).
I know that the days are tailored for particular schools, but she could attend a non-engineering welcome day instead at Northeastern (I assume she is engineering based upon her CoE visit earlier). Any of these days will do a lot of the same stuff - talk about co-op, tours, etc.
Welcome days list from website below (could be some are filled already?)

My daughter did great at NEU, she really thrived academically and socially. Her best friends now (3 year post graduation) are the gang she met the beginning of freshman year.
She entered undeclared (they have a good “explore Program” which they have improved since she left) and ended up a math/econ major with a history minor. Was in the Honors program (enjoyed the honors housing - AC!).
She finished in 4 years with 2 co-ops (the equivalent of 7 academic semesters - thanks to some AP credits). She had 2 good co-ops, one in Boston and the other out of state, which helped get her the job she still has now after graduation (and is doing very well at).
She did so much better at NEU than she had in HS, really finding her tribe. She loves Boston (I don’t think she will ever leave). She worked very hard (that is her nature) but learned a lot (took both fun and practical electives). She is the type of kid who would do well anywhere (grade wise - since she works so hard), but for her the fit was perfect.
If you are sure you want to attend NU, then admitted student day is not necessary. Orientation covers the same material and a lot more. It is more to help students decide if NU is right for them.
@NovaMom93 that’s actually really funny I’ve also pretty much narrowed my schools down to Case or Northeastern, but for mechanical engineering! I’m in the same boat for trying to figure out where I want to go. However I am attending the accepted students day on March 31
@qwertyuipop that’s great to hear! Both schools have so much to offer - but very different in so many ways. Good luck to you - can you post back about what admitted day was like for you?
There will be some events geared specifically towards the colleges in the form of classes or events held by professors from those majors. I am a current student and tour guide and will be setting up for the welcome day from 6am-1:35pm tomorrow for the D’Amore Mckim welcome day. This is the schedule listed on the website, and the only real difference between a regular tour and a welcome tour will be the 8:30-11:30AM sessions along with the concurrent sessions for parents.
This is the schedule posted online.
8:00 – 10:00 a.m.
Continental Breakfast, Check-in
8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
College Welcomes, Departmental Breakouts, and Electives
Students and their families will have their choice of electives to attend that explore some of the different opportunities available within their college.
11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Lunch, Info Fair, Husky Fest, and Campus and Residence Hall Tours
Find time this afternoon to stop by the info fair. You can chat with representatives from all eight colleges and programs, meet student organizations, and have your questions answered by representatives from Admissions, Financial Aid, Residential Life, and more. While you’re at the info fair, be sure to have your photo taken with Paws! Make sure to stop by the Cabot center for lunch on us! Enjoy chatting with current Northeastern students and staff, and make new friends with other admitted students.
1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
University Concurrent Sessions
At 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. you may attend presentations from Student Financial Services, The N.U.in Program, the Global Experience Office, or attend a student life panel!
@NovaMom93 I attended the accepted students day for engineering today and I really enjoyed it. I have gone to several NU campus tours and I went to preview day, so a few speakers were the same. However, this trip was a lot more informative and I had a chance to talk to current students at lunch, at the info fair, and at a Women/minorities in engineering reception at the end of the day. It was really nice hearing from the students because I’ve learned a lot about social life, support systems (specifically housing, difficult engineering classes, co-ops) from the students that I probably wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. If you can make it in April I highly recommend it because it gives you a better feel for the type of kids on campus and their interests. Hope this helps!
My admitted student wants to attend an Admitted Student Day in April but for a number of reasons, hasn’t logged in to the portal to figure out the dates. Are there others beyond those this weekend? We don’t live in Boston…
@jillcashen actually those dates are on the main website. It is every Saturday in April for Admitted Students. The registration system will ask for your student’s NU ID number (its the number he used to set up his applicant portal).
@jillcashen - I guess it depends on which program you are hoping to attend. The Admitted Student Welcome Days end this weekend. I believe that these are geared more towards the college that you plan to enroll in and includes a full day of events. Admitted Student tour days are available M-F and some Saturdays but these seem to be just an information session and the standard tour of the school.
