mission trip?

im going on a mission trip for church next week in Martin, South Dakota. anyone know what to expect? ive never been on one before and i was wondering what kinds of stuff to pack.

Hey! That's so exciting--I'm a bit envious. I just went to Thailand back in February for a few weeks and had the time of my life serving. It was an experience I'll never forget.

I don't know the specifics of your trip, so I can't tell you what to expect. I do know, though, that typically the type of people on these trips are there because of their loving and giving character. When everyone is put together...lots of laughter, love, and caring ensues. It's fantastic. :)

As for what to pack---LOTS of clothes. I typically recommend double the amount of shirts you'd think you need. (Because of sweat during work, general "accidents" that occur when you get a bunch of people together...) Bring some power/protein bars, or breakfast cookies...something you can feed your face when you need a little bit of a lift. Bring a camera if you can get/have one, and take lots of pictures. Take a card game, or something to play around with during spare moments.

Uhhhh, I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting. Have a fabulous time!

Pardon us non-Christians, but what exactly is a mission trip?

people who proselytize. sometimes they just go and help needy people, but they often do that while proselytizing. i'm against that.

Damn... I really wish I had staed with my church. They apprently got a surge of new members (and money), and they're now able to do missions in Uruguay and China... They not only give Korean (Korean-American congregation) lessons, but Mandarin Chinese lessons before service. Too bad I just can't have faith.

A lot of the kids in our youth group collect old toys to give to the little kids. Try getting a toy drive going... even this late into the game.

"I really wish I had staed with my church."

its never too late to join a church. just letting you know. if you really want to, it doesnt matter how old you are, just that your there for God.

and letting everybody know...were gonna be painting houses and stuff like that. but thanks everybody for the amazing tips...i will use EVERY SINGLE one of them =]]

Wow, I hope you have a good time!
I went on a missions trip to Honduras with a team from my school. We did a lot of physical labour to help spruce up some buildings (a common task in missions trips, specially in Central America), we also went to a local school and did little presentations for them. We presented about Canada, Bible stories, songs, crafts, etc. It was a wonderful opportunity/experience.
As for packing...um, I don't really know what to pack for South Dakota...hmm...haha, sorry. Is it just going to be physical labour, or are you doing children's ministery, or what?

i think its pretty much just painting houses and stuff like that. but yeah...i cant wait until i get older and get to go farther for mission trips. im so excited. i leave on june 24 and get back on june 25. the only bad part is that we are driving there and were not allowed any electronics...like cell phones or ipods!!!! i dont know if i can live through a really long car ride without my ipod! what do i do!

la93, most Korean churches are just social clubs. The one I used to go to, I hear, has become a big one (but there are people who genuinely go for chruch).

Korean??? im catholic.
