My son referenced the Sept 11 attacks in his essay and stated he was eight at the time. After he submitted it online–then realized his mistake the next morning. He was 10 years old at that time, not eight. He is pretty horrified at his error and feels all is lost. I proofread his essay and did not catch it, and really feel that I have let him down.

He has passed his CFA, medically qualified, had a great interview with his ALO–do you think this type of mistake will mean he will not be considered?

I can't imagine this would be detrimental. If you didn't catch the error, I doubt that some random elderly gentleman who's never met him before would pick up on it while reading his essay. Attention to detail is important, and is something that is really emphasized here, but I don't think there's any need to feel horrified. Also, please don't feel that you've let your son down. I'm sure he doesn't blame you at all.

haha, that shouldn't matter in the slightest. like petko said, there's almost no chance they would pick up on that. even if they did, it's an honest mistake, and i'm sure would be seen as such.
