So basically this thread is for all of us that have submitted our applications and realized that we made a mistake on it. Be it minor or major, typo or omission, clam fart or walrus barf(?) in this thread you can get it off your chest. Tell us what you did and maybe it will make you feel a little better to read that other people did the same thing.

Myself? I have two thus far.
First I misspelled my name. Yes, my name. I won't post what my name is or how I misspelled it but I did it. In my defense it isn't a massive deal and they probably won't notice but its still there...

Second I typed "haveing" in my supplemental essay.

Last year, son accidentally left a small word out of a sentence, thereby rendering it grammatically disabled. (Two adults, including myself, read it and didn't notice prior to his submitting it!) There were also two additional typo/misspellings. A teacher who wrote a wonderful letter for him, misspelled his name. Ha!

I put Jean for my guidance counselors first name instead of Jeanne on my part of the common app. I don't think they'll notice though, as everything else will have Jeanne from the school. Even then, two letters at the end shouldnt make much of a difference haha.

my husband ended a medical school app essay with "and scrupulous attention to detail" leaving off the period. He was accepted, but we still laugh about that.

I haven't done it, but my friend copied and pasted some stuff from his Duke app into his university of north carolina app and he ALMOST submitted it with the unc one saying he was basically in love with duke and that he couldn't think of anywhere else to go because its program was superior. LOL that would not go well with any admissions officer.

I did ju jitsu for 4 years and achieved a brown belt and left it off my app for my dream school...which is a military school that requires athletics :(

I also forgot to check the "Early Decision" box lol...same application (paper obviously). The admissions office was extremely confused.

I think the incorrect spelling of the name is actually something you want to follow up on with the school. It is already a challendge for schools to make sure that the right documents get to right folders...you add a layer of confusion with a different spelling of the name. I would send a short e-mail saying that you've just discovered the mistake and want to clarify the correct spelling.
Remember, they want to spell it right on your acceptance letter!

You might be right but it isn't a name that people generally use, it is on my SS and birth certificate but I don't think I've ever had any school ever really use it.

This makes me feel so good, I was going back through my son's common app. to print out an essay for a teacher rec. and noticed a mistake. Not a biggie, a typo. It was read by two adults with masters for what seemed like a hundred times. Have kept my mounth shut. Now my confession is over - Bless me father for I have sinned.......

i have a wee mistake i noticed when I needed to make an alternate common app...i was really worried about it...now, i feel like..if they want to reject me based off that, then I wasn't really meant to go there

I applied online to a school and my name and personal info was all filled out and everyhting because I was on their mailing list. One small problem: They spelled my last name wrong on my application! So, do send an email or something to the school telling them about the problem, or will they just see that it was wrong when they see my transcripts? I noticed today that everything I ever recieved from the school had my last name wrong and I just never noticed. Ha ha.

I had a misspelled word in one of my essays, but it was due to a typo, not me not knowing how to spell it. I also reversed my home phone number and my cell phone number, but it's not like they would have known.
