Mistake on your college application? This is for you.

I forgot to change my essay from “I love Vanderbilt” when I submitted to common app. Needless to say, I had fun fixing that one. Especially since that essay went to Emory, Cornell and Duke. Oh fun.

In my commonapp essay I wrote “adlib” instead of “ad-lib.” And now that I’m thinking about it, I could have used a better word in the sentence.

I wrote “My microbiology resulted in” rather than “My microbiology research resulted in” for two of my schools.

I wrote “soceity” rather than “society” in my awards section for my EA school. I also had some unnecessary capitalizations in the activities section.

Nothing too major, I hope.

In the WashUSTL email concerning scholarships, they write:

“Our Universtiy Scholars Program application may be submitted electronically on our website when you log in to the WUSTL Pathway.”

“Universtiy”!!

If even WashU doesn’t proof email, don’t expect 17 year olds to be perfect, either!!

oh and for my EA application I didn’t know I was supposed to list all of my dual enrollment courses/grades in the additional info section. I thought we only had to send an official transcript. That was a bad thing to overlook because I’ve taken almost 20 courses.

I was editing my NYU supplements and then after spending hrs editing, i submitted the before. -.- This just happened i feel like killing myself.

I forgot to put down my club swimming in the activities section. I put down information about my varsity swimming for school, but I forgot to talk about the 10 hours per week of off-season training I do the rest of the year.
Luckily, my the rest of my app was fine and I was accepted to my ED school. =)

I put having instead of haven’t. Eesh.

I have a glaring capital A before a word on my resume…■■■.

Didn’t user cover letters at all when faxing stuff to USC. Didn’t matter though, they said it was perfectly fine.

i left out a period but got accepted to stanford so it’s all good

I couldn’t help but laugh at this one: I changed “presided over” to “ran” on my short answer…or so I thought. Instead, I just replaced “presided” with “ran,” leaving it to read “I ran over tapioca sales”…

At least I’ll brighten the adcoms’ days!

I’m guessing that adcoms have so many applications to read that they don’t even have the time to catch a lot of the typos that people make. But of course, some are more obvious than others.

My dad sent my USC audition DVD to the general admissions office and not the music school, and my Miami music portfolio was submitted online without the lyrics. Oops. I sent them in an e-mail later though. Both USC and Miami called me back for live auditions though, so it just shows that most admissions offices let go of silly mistakes.

Also, don’t know if the admissions people will catch this: My Common App essay had correct modern grammar, but when I was trying to give an example of Elizabethan English, I used “doth” improperly. I also included a very lame pun (labeling it as a “wonderfully bad” joke) that added personality but might make admissions people groan. I wanted to change this after I submitted to my first Common App school but of course they wouldn’t let me alter it for the next school. =/ Ah well haha. Hope they all like it anyway. I know one of em was okay with it. =D

I forgot to list the names on the common app activities.

The name of the company I interned at.
The name of the hospital I worked as a receptionist for.
The name of the place I tutored at.
And the club I was head officer of.

I also typed “of” instead of “or” so that was weird… I sent this to 2 colleges though.

AND I sent in majority of my applications late.
So.
Yeah.
:(

I didn’t realize that the common application preview cut off the last word in just about all of my activity descriptions.

Am I in trouble?

When editing my personal statement I changed the word normal to average within a sentence and forgot to change the “a” in front of normal to an “an”. I also found some more typos in my supplements.

I don’t have any typos in my application, but the CommonApp essay I sent to Vassar is incorrigibly bad and I wish they would allow me to just send them the other one–the one I’ve used with every other school–and forget about that puddle of word vomit, but I know they wouldn’t.

facepalm to the max

A few days after I submitted my apps, I noticed a small word missing on one of the supplements but I’ve been through them since and can’t find it. Maybe it’s one of those instances where my mind is seeing the word even though it’s not there.

Taking off last word in activities: did it to mine too. They’re all readable though.

I also definitely guessed about hours for activities, I can’t remember how much I spent or how many weeks for some. When I look at the “guesstimates” now, they look stupid.
