MIT 2014 RD Discussion Thread

I got deferred EA, so I guess I’ll have to start following this thread now :)

^^

welcome to the family :)

Applying for RD as well… I don’t have a choice, as I’m an international. Right now worrying would a recommendation from a harsh teacher affect me :(

^^

that is why you need to have many options…

Hello there. I’ve almost finished my application and I want to wait until my Sat results are out so I can fill them in before I send it. Any thing I need to know? In my free time I work on computer related programs like AAE, AA, Flash, Autodesk, etc. I made a few flash games (very simple and stupid lol) should I include them. I also have a website but because I cannot buy a domain it’s not online -.-. I did a river research. I have a question. In the part where it asks me what I did in the summer can I say I went out with my friends… or should I put some other thing?

If I wanted to revise one of my essays [I was deferred EA], how would I go about submitting it? Just send an e-mail to admissions saying I’d like it considered over “x” essay, or is there some other procedure? Thanks.

MrPropapanda, you probably want to send all scores in ASAP so to make sure that they’ll all be on your file. They take 2-3 weeks to get in, and MIT will only look at your best scores.

@cgarcia: I wish my scores are out… I want to put them in before I send it… why do you have to do this to me collegaboard WHY!!!

Eh… as long as they get in by the time they finish reading applications you’ll be fine. Generally as long as they’re sent before the end of January.

There was a blog post where they said you could fax an official score report to give them an idea of your scores and they would consider those until they got scores from the CollegeBoard.

Typically you’re advised to let your application stand as-is. If you would like to send other material, snail mail is usually preferable to email.

Hey, I was filling out the app and noticed there is a section under Supplements where it says you can give a url to a website showcasing your inventions/robots/creations and was wondering if I could put the link to my 3d model photobucket there? I’m just not sure if 3d models count as “creations” as they mean there. Any advice? thanks.

^^

I don’t think it would hurt if it is something good :)

Hey everyone, I’m applying too! Happy new year, and only three months left until decisions!

^^

Happy new year to you too :D

Finally… supps done XD

applied. OMG NERVOUS!

MIT is the one and only university i applied too. I am really in love with MIT. That kinda sounds stupid, applying to one university. But I wouldn’t like to go to an Ivy. People out here apply to several universities, but MIT is the one and only. Less than 4% chance, damn…

blackhair1: Hey, great determination  I like that  (Oh, btw, are you int’l? I think so when seeing the rate 4%…)

Yup. I am an international. With “the people out here” I mean others in my country who want to go the to the US. I would go to the US for MIT and not for another university.

Hey blackhair. Your obsession with MIT is just awesome. Hope I could have acted like you. My parents pushed me to apply to some other schools (like Dartmouth). More importantly, MIT did not allow int’l to apply for ED/EA :(

Anyway, good luck blackhair

molliebatmit/chris: For those deferred early action, when do they review the file again? After 1st semester grades? What is the deadline…some schools don’t finish this quarter/semester until the end of January.
