I’m currently a junior in HS, and MIT is my top choice for its large number of water research scientists as well as for its superb running program. Do you guys have any tips for prospective applicants?
Curious to see how many international applicants there are and where they’re from!
since you asked, I’m a longtime lurker of this thread, and am applying to MIT early from Europe.
have an IMO silver, and a 1570 SAT, as well as 800 physics and math2.
my essays are pretty decent imo
can’t wait for the results. can’t even wait for the announcement of the results date
i think it’s gonna be 14th December, 18:20 - 12/14/16, 18:20
Same at the time @readytoimpress–they released decisions two years ago on 12/13/14 at 15:16. They’ll tell us the exact time in a few days though.
@fmasroor I’m Chinese and applying from Greece.
Nice guess @readytoimpress I made it a week ago on page 9. Great minds think alike!
Am I the only one refreshing this page frequently every day?
@readytoimpress wow! IMO is a big deal. Really curious what country you represented if you don’t mind me asking?
@readytoimpress Impressive man, you have a IMO silver, and if your essays are good, I think you have a really good chance.
I have an IOI bronze and applied early (international) too. Really anxious
Hi, that’s my first post on CC and I’m also one of those who check this page daily. I applied early as an international student (more specifically from Europe). Really hope to get accepted even if I’m aware that my chances are very low. Here comes another science olympiad… I have a bronze medal at IBO
I wonder how many Olympiad medalists get selected every year among international students.
@fireserpent the more medalists they accept the better for us In fact, a medal is just a proof that you are really passionate about what you do and are familiar with the situation in which you have to compete with lots of other gifted students (imo it is much like the atmosphere at MIT… the atmosphere of an amicable competition)
Clearly math/science awards boost your application, but I don’t think we should be discouraged if we didn’t get any awards for those competitions. I didn’t even know that kids were doing STEM competitions until I started my MIT essays back in august lmao
Finding this site was a huge wake-up call for me. I used to think that valedictorians were pretty much guaranteed a spot at any top-tier school haha…
@lhw1998 I read somewhere on MIT’s admission site that they look at applicants’ achievements when considering the individual’s circumstances, meaning they take highly into consideration what academic resources they had available to them. So they’ll likely (hopefully) pick up on the fact that some of us didn’t really have the means to enter any STEM competitions…
Hey guys!! I know someone mentioned a groupchat/groupme a while back. Could you post the join link to that? In years past I’ve seen lots of discussion on the FB MIT applicants page but it seems kind of dead there… I’d love to meet some of you all
@tauisgood what’s your groupme?
How great would it be if MIT just randomly released the decisions tomorrow
@ihw1998 is groupme a phone app?
@fmasroor yes
