@rfm512 Doesnt seem believable. Anyone can draft a letter like this nowadays. Besides, such type of mails are sent as emails/links AFTER notification of acceptance (on the portal/in the inbox). If an email is received before the admissions decision, its probably a promotional one.
@rfm512 Very wild. Something MIT never does in regards to app components. Looks like a very wild move indeed on the friends part.
@rfm512 Right so, upon email the adcom and an AO rep on CC (one of the famous ones for MIT, I wont tell who). There is confirmation that MIT doesnt have any sort of clues (un/intentionally) regarding the admissions status of an app. They dont do any early notifications, and the only dates for getting to know athlete/not, donor (MIT doesnt care about these)/not is pi day, or 12/15 for RD and EA resp.
Hope this helps. For further clarifications, @ me.
Hello again all! No urban legend or April Fools. Admission confirmed. He apparently applied EA and received emails around Dec 15 regarding visiting days and contacts but never received the official email of admission. (He is a first gen college applicant from a very rural state and just assumed he had not been admitted.) He did receive it two days ago and the snail mail letter arrived a day later.
Oh that makes sense EA it is.
@rfm512 Ah. Phew. SO it was EA for which he got the mail now. But I doubt MIT personalizes any mail other than the acceptance letter (possibly).
Oh well.
@TheGuy1 Yes, definitely EA. The only mail I have seen is the actual acceptance letter. On that, only the last sentence seems personalized and refers to a design he submitted.
@rfm512 Cool! Glad this is sorted then. I just didnt know they personalize any sort of messages to apps (like Acc. Letters or any other ‘letter’ of the sort)
Maybe thats true and i just heard of it, idk, but i havent heard of any such thing.
March 14, 6:28 pm EST!!!
@LincolnsGF Officially confirmed now.
God, their video is out of box every year.
Good luck to any RD applicants!
Had you received email about notice of RD time and date of admission release? Thanks
@chengweneng Yeah. I’m assuming all apps did, though I’m not sure if they only notify some based on ‘certain criteria’
I would think they notify everyone. Otherwise, it would imply giving a hint about the decision before giving the actual decision
All the best everyone!
@Tamarix Agreed. THough I dont know that for certain.
What are the chances of being accepted after being deferred?
^ 100% in my home stats. My son was accepted after EA deferral.
@coolweather, thank you so much.
