fin aid

anyone know when financial aid packages will be arriving? I heard this week sometime..

The packages were probably mailed Saturday, or today at the latest, so they'll get there in as long as it takes mail to travel from Massachusetts to where you are.

They'll be mailed today. See my blog for an update.

What if we just sent in our 2007 tax returns this past Tuesday through IDOC. We will have to wait for our financial aid packages?

Well, remember that IDOC is a collegeboard thing. So they have to receive all the forms through snail mail.
THEN,
They open it, sort it, organize it, and scan it.
THEN,
They send it off to MIT, where they again receive it, file it, organize it, etc.
THEN,
MIT has to look over everything included in the IDOC (I imagine pretty thuroughly) and then calculate financial aid.
THEN,
MIT sends you your financial aid via snail mail.

I'm not saying it's a slow proccess, I'm just trying to help you see that a few people have to do a bit of work before your FinAid will be ready, and that'll take a bit of time.

On the other hand, if you have already sent in your 2006 tax forms, I believe they prepare a preliminary guestimate of aid. If that was sent in awhile ago, then you should get that aid guestimate.

MIT Admissions | Blog Entry: "FASU3 - More news and information"

Sounds like they're working pretty darned fast to get FinAid out as they get the documents, so that's good news for anyone who has just recently completed their financial aid forms!

Hey I got mine today.

I got mine with my admission decision.

I received mine yesterday.

still havent gotten mine yet =/
this means i'll have to wait at least until monday

did any of you get the acceptance package in the mail yet? cuz i havent gotten that either

Nope I haven't gotten either ^^^. I hope they will come soon.

The finaid came in a folder in the acceptance package.

Except I didn't send in all my papers but the time they mailed it out, so it just had a list of stuff I had to send in.

i got mine thursday, it was surprisingly generous :)

Did your packages meet, exceed, or fall below your calculated EFC?

If on my first part of the app, i said I am interested in applying for fin aid (that was last August) , but then decided not to, so I didn't turn in any forms.. Do I need to tell them?

^^below my EFC

I sent in both my fafsa and css on time, but MIT messed up my ssn and I didn't realize it until I called them a week ago ("does ur ssn begin with xxy?" "NO!"). So now I'm just hoping it gets here before I have to make the decision of whether or not to attend D:

lol! my community college got my SSN wrong by one digit. None of the colleges I've applied to seemed to care. But then, your's is money related... so they would care.

:)MIT financial Aid:) is super-classy!

After being sent the same number of documents I sent other
schools, MIT sent me a thoughtful and much appreciated
financial aid package that covers the EFC.

I am still waiting on the other schools.

For me financial aid is a source of extreme nervousness. The aid
is a lot of money and I am thankful for it but I am even more
thankful to MIT for alleviating my family's stress level. What stands
out particualarly was the humane way I was treated through the process
as a student needing to be supported.

Yes, the rest of the application process was great at MIT but when
I factor in my financial aid experience I have to say
MIT is fantastic!

Thank you MIT financial aid, Dan and everyone else!

it was about half of my EFC.. :)
