MIT finalist??

At the beginning of March, some Chinese students (who haven't interviewed before) received MIT interviews, and told them that they are MIT finalists. And some of them said that their EC told them, MIT rarely gave interviews at the beginning of March, so it meant that they maybe probably got in and MIT is very interested in them.

Have anyone heard MIT finalists before? Is that mean they've been admitted?

I am also interviewed last Sunday. I am Mongolian. My interview is waived , but last week MIT offered me phone interview.( there is not any EC in my country) However, EC did not told me about MIT finalists.

… I think these students are confused.

Maybe something was lost in translation.

I think maybe you’re confused.

who is confused?

Who confused? Me? hahahahhh,maybe

I think now we can entitle this thread “MIT confusion” or “MIT confused.” haha. I am confused too:)

There is obviously some sort of language barrier that was not crossed correctly.

^ Why is that obvious? It’s certainly a possibility, but people get the impression that MIT gives likely letters and such frequently enough when a language barrier hasn’t been crossed.

I heard about a girl who just got early admission (not ED/EA) in my country

You were misinformed.

I’m searching for more information (and confirmation of course) about her. If there’s anything new, I will inform you guys immediately

So if you’re a citizen of the US, but live in another country, you can apply early.

That’s a bingo.

well, this is definitely misinform.

One friend I know got the interview, but he got 55 in TOEFL and NO SATI or II not even ACT score, how much chance do your guys think he can be a finalist?

So, don’t get too worry

^ “One friend I know got the interview, but he got 55 in TOEFL and NO SATI or II not even ACT score, how much chance do your guys think he can be a finalist?”

I doubt this. Your friend must have conducted the interview before the deadline, because having 55 in TOEFL and no SAT II doesn’t satisfy the testing requirements. I don’t think MIT is that silly (sorry, but no offense, Soundwave) to have someone who certainly is going to be automatically rejected interviewed. That doesn’t make sense.

@soundwave

But why does your friend apply to MIT if he doesn’t think he’s got a chance? just to see what a rejection letter looks like?
perhaps he’s an IMO gold medalist or something like that?? or he’s got very strong ECs?

I have found in MIT website that interviews are optional and it doesn’t hurt if you don’t get one.(assume they are telling truth) So I don’t see why you guys are so keen on this late interview thing.

well, he did won the first prize in ISEF back when he was a sophomore…

@dawncoming: Because somebody thought that those who got the late interviews were MIT finalists, which means MIT is very interested in them and they are 99% in - that’s what I understand. At this time, any information about the admissions, even unrelated to the applicants, will certainly make them jump out of their skin.
