MIT Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science (MITES)

do you guys think they've already made the choices or are still doing last minute judging?

also, do you think if i call them with my latest sat scores they might consider them? on the psat for math i got 650, and for the sat i got a 760, and on critical reading i went up by 150 points.

i really don't think MITES committee would do that. Because the application deadline was in February and if they let one person add more things to their app then that would cancel out the meaning of the deadline(not to mention, everyone would do it).

Yeah, it don't think they would take them. Don't get me wrong, it's great that you got an increase in your "learning delta", but then they would have to allow all applicants to do that.

lol it would suck if they actually made decisions like a month ago and the rest of the time they've just been waiting for copies to be made.

I'm not even worried about decisions anymore. I remember last year when waiting for SAMS decisions I freaked out because I hadn't heard anything from them by May, so I just gave up. But then I got in...

I hope we don't have to wait until May =/

Oh gosh I hope we don't have to wait until May...

hey, did you guys pay to go to all the other programs? i rremember i was thinking of going to SAMS, but i think there was something to pay, and in every program I checked as well. I fell at a disadvantage for not having gone to any.

^ SAMS costs $0. You have to purchase your own textbooks (I think there were two; under $200 for both) and you have to pay a $50 deposit, but that is credited back to your account (to use on books). There is also the CMU Pre-College, which is free if you apply and are accepted via the Diversity application. Same situation applies where you have to pay for your transportation there and books, everything else is free. There are a ton of other free programs too, there was a thread compiled with a long list of them if you're interested in a little search. Actually, all of the ones that I'm applying to are free since I really can't afford to spend $5000+ for a few weeks.

There's a lot of programs that are free of cost. Where are you from tzky1990?

Im from S Florida. I wish i had heard from them earlier, I truly searched and didnt find much.

MITES needs to hurry up!! Already in at SSP (Socorro). So if I am accepted to MITES, should pick it over SSP?

thta's up to you.

Is there a waitlist for MITES???

supposedly there is, but not in the traditional sense-I'm not exactly sure how it is.

It depends on where you want to go... I mean if you want to go MIT, you might want to go to MITES, cuz i'm sure the MITES students meet someone that is in the application review committee and you can network with them putting a face to an application in the Fall.

Does anybody think decisions will be mailed this week????

but i do write rap and am an novice rapper heheh

ha ha pretty cool...
but that's tough that you have to decide..

Thats an epic rap there. I think it reflects a bit of everyone's frustration. Hopefully we can get the reply this week, but I think it might be best for Yyoon to reply to ssp on the deadline, instead of giving up on ssp for mites. Cause you never know what mites would say, it would be a risk to not be able to go to either one(not that I'm saying that you won't be accepted, since you definitely have a good chance, but its always a risk).

^ I agree, it would be sad to end up not going to either (though i'm sure it's not going to happen)

you guys, they just called me from MIT. they said that i was close to getting in, but taht i didnt, and since my application was really strong that they are inviting me to some program where I stay in MIT for like 5 days and go to MIT classes, I stay with a host. well, im really sad for not getting in, it wouldve been nice meeting you, good luck

edit: oh yeah, and they pay everything including transportation (still sucky compared not going to mites)
