I'm pretty sure he meant that they sent him an email about something he inqured about, and he got a "cold" reply.

Yeah that's what I meant. MIT doesn't releases decision before release date.

Btw, haven't they started reading international applications yet? Or the selection is yet to begin.

I got one C in Class Xth(Mathematics); rest all are A's.
Will the Primary reader throw my file away?

yes, but before doing so, he'll shred it, use the paperstrips to start a bonfire, then collect the ashes and jump on them like a maniac laughing hysterically and screaming 'Bi@#$ thats what you get for getting a C four years ago!!"

:-) or not

I am not getting stupid. Ben mentioned somehere that Primary redaer will throw your file if you have a bunch of D's. A C in India means 56/100, that would be E(!) in US. On top of that they have 800 applications from India; Surely they won't read all.

Abhi, I'm really curious... wat did they reply? Tell plz

And anyway, receipts and confirmations are always concise.. r they supposed to be mighty jolly????

Abhi, how is a C a 56? curious You can have a C for 69 around here. At least, on my transcript. (Or is this evaluated by WES?)

And for me a C's anything from 70-80.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about WES evaluations.

Matt's wording last year on March 7 was
Today, much of the staff was out of the office reading international applications, which is a nice change of pace from domestic applications.
This makes me think that perhaps they have not even started reading international applications yet.

Yes, they do absolutely read every single application. It wouldn't be fair if they didn't.

A single C is not the same as a string of D's, and Ben was just using that as an extreme example. The readers do not throw away very many (if any) applications after the first read, because most people are competitive for admission.

Thanks Mollie. That was a relief.

Noldo and K_twin: Dunno. My Xth CBSE Mark-Statement indicates C1; my numerical score is 56. I think CBSE has a marking scheme dependent on percentile: Top 1/8 percent get A1 and so on. I am not that bad to get a C even after WES evaluation:)

bas007: I got two replies. One from Matt and other from MIT Int'l admission. Matt's message said "Thank you for the further update", which IMO means that has been added to my file. MIT int'l admissions said that there's no guarantee that at at this junction material would be added to my file.

Sorry for the Confusion.

I meant top 1/8 of the pool, not .125%.

I just checked the CBSE grading scheme (as provided rather helpfully by my semester report card), and 55-70 is C for 12th grade at any rate, so that may well be fine. Don't think CBSE is percentile-based, but I don't know.

Noldo, Abhi is right Top 1/8 get A1, next 1/8 A2, next 1/8 B1, next 1/8 B2 and so on upto E... that's what CBSE follows in the board exams... For Indian schools, grading in internal school level exams depends on many factors... including the teacher's mood (LOL) or the difficulty level of the paper and letter grading isn't popular in India anyway... It may vary from school to school, though CBSE recommends its 1/8 rule..

Yeah, my school definitely doesn't follow the 1/8 rule in-school. (On our pre-Boards, no-one got an A. In anything.)

ur school must be horrible! (joking :-) )

good luck you guys.

if you're not accepted, just remember that going to a particular college should not be your final goal in life. ultimately what matters is what you do with your life, and there are plenty of opportunities at other places as well.

lol, thanks drunner..and you are completely right..i think that CC gets us a little caught up in going to only the 'best'...and otherwise failing at life.

I have a safety already, but I still really want to go to MIT. If I don't get in I'll be really disappointed. I understand what you're saying but I just can't help it.

idk, honestly i feel like if i get accepted i'll just be like 'w t f? did they not see my average???'

like, hohnestly, i will be confused. this far down the road, i'm not sure its the right place, you know?

woah my post sounded so sad! its all because of a jones soda cap i got yesterday. it told me to reduce my expectations to avoid being disappointed. pretty much lower my standards.

so i take it back. i <3 MIT and would love to go there.

I don't care either way any more...I'd love to get in and go, but if not, it will be ok. I'm not going to fail at life if I don't get in.
