lol, well let’s hope that doesn’t happen drosophyllum. we’ll know soon enough.

@ drosophyllum
aww thanks drosophyllum. I’m pretty sure you’ll get in. hmmm about my stats they were good but not outstanding. A lot of people here have higher stats than me. How about you?

hey I’m curious to know how did u all find out about the MIT MITES Summer Program?

I find out about MITES through the MIT website. I’ve been considering applying to MIT and looked around their website and saw the list of summer programs. I was considering WTP, but it just didn’t look very appealing to me and it also cost money…
MITES was the only one that stood out for me, and now here I am, waiting anxiously for the decisions…you?

I saw it in the MIT website three years ago…

Anddddd yeahhhhhhhhh…

Also my physics teacher told me to apply because he thought i could get in… I really wasn’t thinking of applying because when i think “URM, LOW INCOME, BRIGHT STUDENTS” i think of starving ethiopian geniuses who invented some type of eco-friendly algae-synthesis of petroleum.

700 applicants… needless to say MITES will be the most unusual group of students from all over the nation…

°_O

TWILIGHT ZONE BACKGROUND MUSIC

They sent me a postcard about the program. (They being MIT)

Would 'nt it be nice if we received early notification like perhaps on [Friday the 10th]… :D

I saw it on the MIT website, and I wanted to apply but I figured I wouldn’t get in and forgot about it. Then MIT sent me the little postcard about it and I decided why not? I had nothing to lose really, just some time and a stamp or two.

well i found out about it through this website. I was trying to find out more about the Penn SAAST SUmmer Program through the forums in this site and someone mentioned the program continuously and I thought it sounded interesting and it was 2 weeks before the deadline so I was pretty lucky.

so everyone that got a postcard I’m guessing that you probably showed some kind of interest towards MIT for them to send you a postcard. I was thinking that people got a postcard were those that were in MA area.

also can someone tell me what a URM is cause I keep getting a different definition of it every time.

@drosophyllum
“when i think “URM, LOW INCOME, BRIGHT STUDENTS” i think of starving ethiopian geniuses who invented some type of eco-friendly algae-synthesis of petroleum.”
haha lol

@Melody224
o I didn’t know that WTP required money for the program. I feel better now because I found out about it little after I submitted the MIT MITES application but missed the deadline.

sry you guys this is so long I thought this was better than submitting many posts

Blackrose - URM stands for Under-Represented Minority.

Basically Hispanic, African-American, or Native-American.

oooo ok well I was correct about the U and M part of it thanks ansar

Well, I don’t really remember signing up for anything saying “Send me more information about MIT” or anything like that. I had visited their website once. It might have been through PSAT since they send all your info to like a billion people.

@BlackRose21
Yeah, the cost of WTP was definitely a turn-off. And plus, MITES seems more representative of college (more people, more classes, etc.)
@everyone else
I looked at the old thread and today is when some people started to get their Fly-In calls…
Maybe some of us will get fly-ins as well :)

I got a post card from them like 3 months before the due date and I never really looked back at it till 3 weeks before it was due :P

@ Melody224
Oh that’s true.

@ everyone
hey i found this on youtube. It talks about the academics,housing and different things for colleges. The link is for MIT. It shows the campus and stuff. [YouTube - theU.com - MIT: “Intro”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWtGBLLA3RI)

@Melody224

I might be wrong but ppl got their results on 12th

and fly in ppl got response at 7th.

This year it is scheduled for 15th, so fly in would be 10th?

idk just my guess

o_O

Ahh…I hope I don’t get a call…I mean, fly-in would be nice, but it seems like a “You’re not going to MITES, but here is how we’re making it up to you.” -_-;

Life4TIM, that makes sense. But I really hope we get decisions before the 15th…
And thanks for the link BlackRose21!! Its very helpful and has a lot of great info.
Lol ansar, imagine how awkward the phone call would be. But still, fly in is better than nothing I guess.

a fly in would be great, but I would definitely prefer to get in and thanks for the link blackrose21.

ACCEPTED!!!

I got the letter in the mail yesterday, but haven’t had a chance to post until today. I’m super excited! The letter was dated April third, so I’m guessing they’ve been sent out already. Good luck to everyone else!
