MITES 2010 Information & Discussion

What was your PSAT score, sorry just in curiosity b/c I have a theory about this…

nil are you asking me?

Yes…
Sorry,its just for a theory.
of course, your decision to share or not is your own decision

well… i got a 240…
yes it was awesome when i saw my score report
wow… i feel like im starting this stuff way too late, i should start posting in TASP instead since i have no chance at the MIT programs T-T

Whoa! you got a 240
genius
you def have a chance!

thanks hombre hopefully we both get in to whichever we’re applying

Hey guys me too an asian and studying grade 12 with grade 11 results of 70.6%. I m taking TOEFL classes and still want to apply for MITES before deadline. Is it possible???
Suggest me.

@ambaturkey11 It would be amazing if we got in!! I’m from MI. Ha, you did one point better than me in your PSAT math score. I cried a little when I saw my score. I really should have studied or reviewed for it because i’m in pre-calculus now and none of my current math was on the test. Oh well, hopefully they’ll look past it…other than that I’m 1/120 in my class and have 4.0 uw gpa, and 4.5 w gpa.

is physics a prerequisite for this program? i think i’ve got a decent resume but because of scheduling conflicts this year, i wasnt able to take physics. so i’ve never taken physics before in my life. would that pretty much put me out of the running?

@mrdoodle: noooo. the physics I course is non calc based and it seems like regular HS physics.

@MollyMIT: cried a little! i cried alot, i though i was going to make at least a 70 hahaha but i got over it with the math competition and all =]. and being #1 is a great thing. im 5/173 but thissemester i’ll be 3rd for sure!

@kalyan. always apply. you have a chance. what are your stats like?

@kevlu93. the website said you can add an additional rec with your math and science ones, so definitely ask your AP lang teacher cause more than likely he/she will write about you from a differesnt perspective.
and you only have a chance if you apply.
and lucky!!! a 240! you make me look bad hahaha.

for class rank, should i get the most recent one( first and 2nd semester)? - it might be a little higher…
or would that be dishonest and should I only use last years ?

Not quite.

Sure there’s no calculus involved, but the course is significantly harder than say, AP Physics B? There’s just less material covered because it’s such a short course.

With that said, there were quite a few people with no physics background, so no it doesn’t disqualify you. Go ahead and apply.

@ nil desperandum,

lol No… if anything it’s more honest because it’s more recent. BTW guys, I was in MITES this past year, so feel free to ask as many questions as you’d like :).

Sorry if this question is redundant, but when they ask for the official PSAT scores is that just a copy of our score reports or do we need something more official?

what is the url for this summer program?

just google mites

Does anyone know when the scores will come for the Jan. 23rd SAT?

Good luck to everyone applying. :)

No, I wonder about that…

Interbet score delivery (to both students and schools) on Feb 11, and paper score mailing begins on Feb 19.

Hey guys! I kind of have a question, and I’m inexperienced when it comes to CC, but here goes…
I’m applying to MITES, but I’m an Indian from a middle income (about 45000) rural community in the mountains of Virginia. Obviously, does the fact that I’m asian detract from my status as a “minority?” and also, how much do psat scores play a factor? I got a 199, considerably low, and a 64 onthe math section ( i guess having bronchitis+swine flu while taking the psats doesnt help…). Do you all have any suggestions? What would you see as my chances? I do have strong ECs I think.> I’m a lacrosse player and play flute and saxophone. I’m number one in my class, and Vice president of the INteract Club and Secretary on the SCA. Also Junior class president, and section leader in band. Also was in area/district band…

but like i said, not sure about my essays, tehy may be too cliche, and my psats are horribly low. i havent taken the sat yet. can any previous MITES-ers post their stats? Any input would be greatly appreciated. PLEASE.
