MITES 2013 Discussion

@Rivstein: it’s not updated that often but… [Igniting Inspiration: MITES '12](http://mites12atmit.blogspot.com/)

I know that some MITES '12 students applied via QuestBridge (I didn’t) and while a number were finalists, only a few were matched. In the end, some of the people still got into MIT and top schools (obviously, we won’t know for sure until March-May).

I think recommendations helped a lot. I had pretty good scores and grades, but I think my recs helped show my personality beyond scores and that helps a lot.

Finally, @ailad24: it was honestly the best, and hardest summer of my life. I met many amazing (and inspiring!) people who challenged me to be my best. I miss it terribly, especially now that I don’t have friends to PSet and study with. Don’t get me wrong, you HAVE to do work. Even then, you will learn so much and become a better student. Plus, you can explore Boston/Cambridge on your weekends with your friends!

Can anyone share what the other programs other than MITES are like? Like the one-week program and the online program? Much appreciated!

I sent in first quarter grades- do I need to send them my second quarter grades?

^As it turns out, no you don’t.

I sent mine in anyway because they make me look good. I had earned a ‘B’ in AP Calculus BC as a sophomore, but I got an ‘A’ in Calculus 3 at the college where I dual-enroll. I sent in first semester grades to counteract the initial ‘B’.

Are we or our counselor supposed to send in SAT scores?

I’m so nervous to hear back from mites. I check this thread at least once a day, but I really don’t think I have a good chance of making it anyway.

You were supposed to self report your scores and the counselor was supposed to confirm them.

@collegeboyyy

I’m in the same boat. I will probably cry if I get in.

@rivstein same. I would be so elated

@Collegeboyyy

You’re form Delaware! S/o to Delaware! Btw, I’m MITES '12

Thanks liveforscience.

@collegeboyy: I feel the same way. I think it’s a long shot, but it’d be freaking amazing if I got in. I’d prolly have to check the admission notice about six times and let it set in for a week or two to fully realize I got in.

@collegeboyyy

I feel exactly where you’re coming from. April seems so far away. Best of luck to all of us!

I wonder how awkward it would be if we all meet each other. XDD But then again, that’s if we get in. D:

Ah, fingers crossed!

I’m gonna buy a shirt with my username on it if I get in, lol.

I would absolutely love to attend MITES! I’m just as hopeful as the rest of you. I can’t wait until this summer! Six weeks at MIT would be amazing, and considering it’s my #1 choice for college, would allow me to see if MIT would really be a place where I’d fit in and enjoy the experience.

I don’t think it would be that awkward to meet in person, if we all got in. It would be pretty cool knowing some people already, and that would probably make the first few days a little less awkward.

Also, selection notifications are in March, according to the website. However, I’ve read on previous threads that notifications have been pushed back in past years, so don’t count on it! In any case, we’re looking at only about two months until everything is revealed! Good luck!

Only two months… haha. I like Rivstein’s idea!

Uhh two months… My chances are quite slim to be honest, but it would be an amazing experience. MIT is my first choice too. While I know that results don’t come out until march, I still check my mailbox everyday in hopes of getting an email from them :/

Haha it won’t be awkward. We actually made two Facebook groups. The first one was a month or so before decisions came out, and past alumnus would answer questions, we would get to know each other, etc. Then, when decisions came out, we made a MITES 2012 group that was and still is pretty active. So we kind of had an idea of who a few people were before the program started.

@rowzay42 are you from Delaware?

@collegeboyyy Yeah man! Southern Delaware.
