If we do a chat (and get at least 5 people to agree), I propose we make it a video chat on Oovoo, Skype, Airtime, or whatever we choose.

Rivstein, Google+ Hangouts or Bust! :D

I’ll have to catch the next one; I went on two field trips Thursday & Friday (wooo, True Colors! :), and missed a test/quiz in every class except for chorus & APUSH (APUSH test is Monday). Even worse, everyone except for one kid (I mean, there’s only 4 of us excluding me, but still, hahaha) failed the chem test … and it was open book.

Well in that case, I’m glad you aren’t dying lol. Also, it is a great sob story essay. Although it must suck to be able to write such essay legitimately.

I don’t think I’ll be able to chat for a while. I tend to have all my weekends busy, hopefully on April I will have some “free” time; that way you will see me cry for not getting into MITES xD (My math teacher dislikes me and I think wrote a bad essay). But I vote for Skype lol.

Philosophy is awesome! One reason I chose IB over AP is the critical thinking in IB. I’ve been reading some of Plato’s dialogues and want to read some Socrates just based off some of his quotes.

Leviticus- I’m pretty sure you just (3 pages ago) paraphrased Socrates on the whole, “The only thing we know is that we know nothing.” Intentional?

Now that I think about it, I would prefer to video chat only if I get accepted and only with other people who were accepted.

I received some bulk mail from MIT and I thought MITES had released decisions early, lol. I was excited for about 30 seconds until I found out what it was.

For some reason, however, I’m feeling unusually confident. If I don’t get accepted, it will be because I’m not first generation.

^If i don’t get in, it’s because I’m a Asian Private school student

Yeah for being Asian!!! haha

@Rivstein
Dude, the same thing happened to me!!! I was like “No way!” then I was like “aww, the makes more sense though.”
I have no confidence on getting in any longer, and I agree with what Rivs is saying about getting accepted and chatting; those who don’t get in could feel worse than they should.

Rivstein, I suppose your right on this one.

On the side, I wish I were that confident about this, I’m happy with my application and I still don’t think I’ll get it Then again, that’s normal I guess.

(Hey, um, guys… don’t say things like “If I don’t get in, it’s because [blank]”… They reach for diversity, yes, but there are a LOT of factors to consider. More than just the plus factors and whatnot. I’m confident, but if I don’t get in, I’m not planning on blaming it on one thing or the other. (I still think that everyone here has a great shot at making it haha))
We could go on Tinychat!

I will definitely blame it on something because it makes me feel better about myself.

Y u no let me feel gud?!

“If I don’t get in, it’s because I wasn’t as good a fit to the program as the accepted kids were.”

That’s really about all you can say. I hope I get in, and I think I have a decent chance, but there isn’t a formula to admissions and nobody can predict why they didn’t get in. Places like RSI often reject very high quality, accomplished, brilliant students in favor of those without research experience, USA Olympiad medals or other reputable accolades. Many of those kids who were rejected probably expected to get in and blamed it on “my teacher’s inability to write a good rec” (if they didn’t see it) or something similar. I find it in everyone’s best interest to be honest to yourself and let go, instead of dwelling on something out of your control, such as your teacher, ethnicity, or generational status.

Also, I know some of you are just joking here, but I felt that needed to be said. I hope I’m not coming off as too serious!

Welp, SF went alright I guess. I got $50 from the American Chemical Society, so yay!

So, I’m looking at my list of summer programs and picking out which ones to apply for. It’s overwhelming. So far I have:

UC Berkeley CSE, CDC, UW Engineering Summer Experience, and SAMS

Should I try for Questbridge? I barely started the essays, and idk if it will be worth it based on the acceptance rate… Any tips on what to do?

I’m doing QuestBridge as well and if you want to do it I’d advise you to start right about… NOW. Seriously.

The essays aren’t too bad, but they want transcripts, score reports, rec letters, financial information, etc.

It’ll get overwhelming if you don’t start as soon as possible.

@JHansen,
What are UC Berkeley CSE, CDC, UW Engineering Summer Experience?

Should I try for Questbridge?
Technically you should but it wants one teacher recs and etc. it’s due in 3 days o.O

I already have a rec. I don’t know what they want for my test score uploads. I only have my PSAT sheet. My March SAT score comes the 28th :-/

UCB CSE is a two-day paid stay at Berkeley
UW ESP is the exact same thing as MITES… but at UW Madison.
CDC Disease Detectives is a weeklong camp at the CDC. I live near Atlanta, so I can commute

I’ll start on my essays now… the last 3 are due 4/5.

jhansen, CMU SAMS? If that’s the case, looks like we’re in the same boat.

Welp, it’s AP/EA. but yeah.

I want this summer to be something i get to share with people. Though internships and classes are fun, I want a change–SSP, MITES, ESP, and AP/EA seem to fit that.

Though Emory and Penn sound nice for QB, I only really want to go there for the Calc II class (in case GA Tech doesn’t accept me for dual enrollment) and the college advisement…
