I got into a local research internship. I’ve been matched with a faculty member already, and it is in the field of Neuroscience. However, I am supposed to contact my research host by April 1st, two weeks before MITES releases decisions! I would rather go to MITES than this program (this program is great, but I can’t pass up MITES!) Does anyone have advice on what to do? Everything would be great if MITES stuck to their original March deadline, but unfortunately, they’ve pushed it back considerably. I am unsure as of what to do and am trying to resolve this conflict as best as possible. I’ve already e-mailed MITES about this and will talk to the internship as well, in the next few days. Hopefully you guys can give me some advice on what to do. Anything would be greatly appreciated!

Questbridge will take the 28th SAT scores, although they that they do not assure for them to take those scores into consideration.

It would be really cool if MITES released your decision early, haha. I have a feeling, however, that you might have to depend on getting that deadline extended.

Personally, I would accept the internship on April 1st and then cancel if you get into MITES. I mean, getting into MITES is a free ticket to MIT (and, frankly, all of our chances are slim) and the internship people aren’t going to report you to the Feds or anything. I personally accepted a job offer and then quit on the first day, lol. It’s not like I had to pay a cancelation fee. It was a necessary violation of professional/ethical codes that I eventually forgot about and hasn’t effected me since.

Worst case scenario, in 10 years you apply for a job at the same institution that offered you the internship. Then, the person that read the internship applications, 10 years before, has since been promoted to “employment application reader” and miraculously remembers that you were the person who canceled on his or her internship commitment. Then he or she refuses to acknowledge that you were a minor and have since matured; he or she responds by not hiring you and then you are forced to find a job somewhere else. ):

Rivstein, I think it’s more likely that everyone on the thread is admitted than that occurring but hey.

run1116, Not that I’m some sort of authority on the matter, but I think you should just tell the faculty member your situation. I doubt they’ll have much of a fit over it, as MITES’s decision to push the dates back was out of your control. I’m sure it’ll work out :)

What exactly do you do at UCB CSE? Is it worth the trip if you’re from socal, you think?

Depends on how much you’re thinking about UCB. It’s a consideration. But honestly, if i don’t get any of the summer-long programs i applied for, this and other shorter things are better than nothing

BTW guys, we need a countdown clock when April begins.

I’m kind of in the same situation in terms of getting offered another position. Do you know if the 15th is the correct date for decisions?

The was the point buddy. I reinforced my position by introducing an improbable “worst case scenario”.

My position being the course of action he/she should take after both parties refuse to accommodate him/her.

It’s “by the 15th”, not on the 15th.

Although, “on the 15th” is probable.

Around three more weeks till results (>.<)! Ahhh I have never wanted anything more than to get into MITES!

jhansen, everybody…

I’ll be honest, all I want right now is MITES. MITES Admission crew! Of you can read this, keep in mind that my birthday is during the program, it would be a perfect birthday present!!! XD.

I don’t want to take enrollment with any of my other choices, even if it prevents me from being valedictorian.

Lol. I think I would shoot myself in the face if they hold out until the 16th just to spite all the kids on CC.

I’m betting on the 15th, but knowing how things go it’ll be on May 1st. lol

Rivstein, I know, just making a joke :P

Will we be notified by mail or email?

I was looking at a 2008 MITES thread and I saw one applicant that had the exact same stats as me and was accepted!!! My GPA was slightly higher, but she was a female.

I believe you will be e-mailed to check the MITES website, which will have your decision. Or at least that’s what I’ve heard.

I really hope I get in! I saw that RSI generally takes 2 from Texas, which is extremely difficult to get. However, I’ve seen figures of 7-8 and 11 from MITES people for the Texas count. Take that with 30 extra people (80 vs. 50), and that helps tremendously! That’s excellent! Hopefully I am one of those select few.

Also, what classes would you guys be taking at MITES? I’d probably be in Calculus III, Physics III, Biochem, Humanities, and Genomics if I could choose. You never know though; placement tests might say otherwise, and classes would likely fill quickly.

If I could choose it would be the same, but instead of Genomics I would be in Robotics. I certainly hope that placement test does not say otherwise 0.o
