Unfortunately, I am unable to contact them until Thursday, because of school. Luckily, I have Thursday and Friday off, and can work something out by then. If I get nothing then, I will attempt to call one final time Monday (in the morning, during lunch, something,) and if that doesn’t work out, then I will have to accept the internship. Thanks for your input. I guess I really will have many more opportunities to research. What was I thinking, taking it over MITES? MITES is a one-in-a-lifetime experience, and with it I would be much more greatly prepared to enter MIT. I’d have a head start on coursework, make great friends, learn about college admissions, see the environment, develop a network, and finally see if it’s the right place for me. I guess it isn’t about the money anymore, and even if I would get paid in the internship, I am not desperately in need of money (I am not rich, I just am not a very big spender by any means) and it would be nice to explore new territory. I wonder if I accept the internship, how bad it would be to decline it if I got into MITES later. I don’t think there is anything they can do to me, but hopefully I wouldn’t mess them up too badly. At worst, they just take one less kid I guess. But that also deprives my lab host of someone, betrays a commitment I have made, and takes up a spot at MITES someone else would otherwise have.

Maybe I won’t get into MITES and I am wasting my time. I think I should go relax and stop worrying so much. This summer will be awesome in any case. Good luck guys!

@Run: This is definitely one sticky situation… although I don’t know the full details of this internship program, I think that personally, I would choose the internship. It’s a shame that they won’t allow you to give a decision in a few weeks’ time, but if the situation has come to this, then I would rather secure a plan for the summer than potentially have no summer activity at all. :/

@run1116 I think Rivstein mentioned this already, but can’t you accept the internship now and turn it down later if you get into MITES?

I’m sure they wouldn’t execute you or anything like that.

You’d be securing a summer activity just in case you don’t get into MITES. That’d be better than turning it down and ending up with nothing if you don’t get in.

Good luck though! Hope you work something out :)

Do any of you guys sleep? lol. Wait, what part of the are you guys from? I’m in Miami, FL so When I see a post that says 2:58Am, I get a little shocked lol. @Run1116
I agree with what Rivstein and Leviticus are saying, that is probably your best bet. @Rivstein
I am not a redditor, but I live on tumblr XD if that helps.

I’ve been thinking, and I guess that is what I’ll do if I don’t get an early decision and I get into MITES eventually. I need to contact my lab host soon though, so if I tour the lab then decline, it might be a bit awkward. Oh well. Thanks guys. Hopefully I’ll see you at MITES!

OzzyArmas, What is this “sleep” you speak of? (Long Island, NY btw)

Run1116, Best of luck! I hope everything works out. Besides, it’s probably better to guarantee the internship and then decline than to turn it down, as awkward as that can be :P

@MobiusUno, that thing called sleep is the reason I don’t get straight A’s.

@Rivstein, I am sure they won’t be region based. And I would prefer dinner over a murder scene, unless you help me take down my targets of course xD. Oh and your dream was a little too unrealistic.
