MITES 2016 Discussion

At least we know those non-STEM essays will make our applications stand out somewhat. Hopefully in a good way

my essay was sort-of related to STEM but not explicitly. Regardless of their decisions, I think the essay writing was a valuable experience.

I totally bombed the invention essay.

All my essays were mediocre. Therefore, I’m not expecting an acceptance. :frowning:

i’m rereading my essays rn, and I am reliving all the emotions and experiences I conveyed in them. TBH I’m not expecting to get in because there are so many other highly qualified candidates. I am so happy I applied anyway because these essay prompts had me re evaluating my entire existence haha. Looking forward, I think that whether we get a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’, we should find solace in the fact that we cared enough to try

@quietspectator Preach. The whole application process was something I’ve never really experienced before, so regardless if I get in or not, I’m glad I experienced everything that went into applying!

True; I feel like now we have a taste of the college application experience with the essays, acceptances, and waiting and all of that!

The worst part is waiting.
I feel like Aaron Burr…just waiting for it

So just seeking some advice from any alumni or other applicants.

Ive been accepted into an apprenticeship at a research laboratory for the summer.
I was just curious to hear what kind of program y’all would choose given the choice between MITES and said apprenticeship.

I want to undergraduate research which is one of the reasons I would love to go to MIT, and why the apprenticeship would be great
However Ive wanted to go to MITES for the longest and the experience looks amazing

For the alumni, which experience do you believe would be most beneficial?

Not an alum, but you might get E2 or Mostec which only involve one week of travel meaning you might be able to do both.

@SockandBoots OMG this has been ME for the last month! I had so much more I could have written in my essays and I feel like I didn’t take full advantage of them ughh. But lol no I didn’t talk about my non-STEM subjects.

@SockandBoots omg you did not just make a Hamilton reference aahh fave

@pommedeterre13 hopefully it will be enough (another Hamilton reference for you) for MIT

I think it’s safe to assume that tomorrow is day we’ll find out. One more day, guys!

Hi! I also applied for the MIT MITES program and I’m so excited. I was just wondering if anyone knew how we would know that we were accepted or rejected. Like is there an email? Letter? Phone call? Does anyone know?
Best of luck to everyone!

@Diamante77D Email!

Decisions should come out tomorrow.

Sadly predicting rejection…

Do they come out in the morning typically?

Hey everyone. I wish I would have found this thread sooner. I also applied to the program and I am really nervous for the decisions. I really think that they will come out tomorrow because I read the discussion thread for 2015 and it said that the application portal was blank the night before results came out. I just logged in and it was blank. Can you guys please check yours and see if it is blank? Also do you guys think we have better chances of getting in because they extended the application deadline. Or was that them just being nice?
