I got reject
oh well
there’s always gov school
Yay! I got in!
@gothamreal why can’t you do both?
hey everyone, I got accepted into MOSTEC!
@drsrake6477 can you please share your stats, ethnicity, place of residence and income.
please share all others who got in too. thanks
I got in to both MOSTEC and SSP Astrophysics at CUB! I don’t know what to chose but I’m leaning towards SSP.
Hi, question from former graduates. I just got in and I’m wondering how the meal plan works, is it vegetarian friendly? What’s it like? Also, they say you can’t take any online classes while you’re there, but surely they don’t like monitorr what you do so couldn’t you if you wanted to? I’m supposed to be taking a class this summer to earn my pre-cal credit for high school.
In for MOSTEC! Super hyped since I don’t have to give up my NIH biomedical research; any group chat yet?
Congrats to those of you who got in! D19’s says waitlist. Got into SAMS and an IT Internship, so not a crushing defeat.
Congrats to everyone who got in! Rejected – was really hoping for MOSTEC but it’s alright.
If you’re all willing, will those of you who were admitted share your stats + tips for next year’s MITES/MOSTEC applicants (and reference for those of us who were rejected)?
hey so i’m MITES 17 alumn & i can 100% there’s always super good vegetarian options!! the dining hall always has vegetarian foods & you can always go to the student center or h-mart for other options. & about the online class thing, i actually took spanish 3 online while i was there. it’s doable, for sure, just gotta manage your time well!
Does anyone want to make me feel better about only getting into MOSTEC instead of MITES? Only the cool kids get into MITES right?
Also, anyone who got into MITES: how many ppl applied? For the MOSTEC acceptance letter they said 2,100 applied for MOSTEC and I was kind of shocked by that number being so low.
@sudania hey don’t worry about the rejection, that just means you have a summer free to do cooler stuff on your own that colleges actually care about!!
my stats aren’t so good bc I hadn’t taken the SAT at the time
PSAT: 1440
SAT (sophomore year): 1440
Rank: 1/363
GPA: 4.19
Extracurriculars: a variety, but nothing really STEM related
Rec letters were from teachers who either didn’t really speak English or didn’t really like me so I don’t think that got me in…
I’m also not low-income and I’m asian so that’s not an underrepresented minority.
I think my essays are what did it, I talked about my personal struggles/experiences, I also did a lot of volunteer work in the Philippines and talked about that… I think most of all I tried to be really unique, but I actually didn’t talk about STEM much at all except for the question about “If you could invent anything to change the world what would it be?” I also answered the optional question with personal family stuff lol. Not good enough for MITES though still bitter
@Kookie101 I knew two people who got waitlisted last year and they both ended up getting accepted to MOSTEC. I’m pretty sure the OEOP waitlists people only when there’s a high chance of accepting them at the end, so you stand a good chance!
@EraseUrSocial Thank you for that response. I guess we’ll see by May 1st. I hope for the best :)>-
@Kookie101 I was also placed on the waitlist for MITES/MOSTEC. I’m not sure if I have I chance of getting off, but I hope that I do.
Does anyone who went to MITES or MOSTEC know if anyone from last year from the waitlist was admitted. Thx
PSAT: 1370
GPA: 96/100
Rank: Top 3-5%
Extracurriculars: some random stuffs plus some STEM competitions
Identity: Asian, new immigrant
So surprised that I got accepted into MOSTEC! I think my essays are the part that got me in.
My SAT really sucks, the reading section is a failure… T^T
@cbamfta 2100 was a combined statistic for both OEOP programs. It’s likely that they placed students in MITES/MOSTEC depending on their background and essays. From the past years, MITES and MOSTEC have accepted roughly the same amount of people. Therefore, they’re both equally competitive! Since they scrapped E2, it may be different. It’s all up to how you take away from either experience
Hi everyone! Congrats to everyone who got in. I know this is a little late but got into MOSTEC!
@mangoray thanks so much for the info! i wonder what about my background said mostec instead of mites.
