Mixed Student - 1/2 Chilean and 1/4 Korean

Hello,
I am half Chilean, 1/4 White, and 1/4 Korean. I was curious to know how I should identify - I’m pretty sure I should say mixed- and how I should bring it up in essays, personal statements, etc. It is a large part of my identity but I am not sure what direction I should take it in.

If you identify as mixed for race, and it sounds like you do, then yes, choose mixed as your race.

You may also identify as as ethnically Hispanic. If so, you’d choose that too.

thanks. I understood that much but do you have any tips on how I could use it in personal statements and essays or scholarships? Could I apply for asian/ hispanic scholarships? And in terms of applying to schools will it hurt me whether I go one way or the other, ie if I mention my involvement with my chilean grandmother or my involvement with my asian side?

Being mixed race won’t harm you if you talk about it. If anything it shows how you’re different from the other students applying. Also since you are Hispanic and Asian you qualify for both types of scholarships.
