Okay, I life in NJ and I originally had an interview with an admissions counselor in Brooklyn, NY but had to cancel because something came up. Then, we rescheduled but the he got sick so we had to reschedule AGAIN! And then, today, I was supposed to interview with him and I got the address for the café wrong and basically, he sat there in Downtown NYC waiting for me and I sat at UWS waiting for HIM. Will this negatively impact my acceptance chance? I really want to go to this school and he said “it’s alright, these things come up… I really appreciate your effort” but he honestly sounded kind of upset I think?? And so basically, he arrived at the café an extra 30 mins earlier just for my interview and I missed it!!
He is supposed to my the admissions counselor for my area meaning he will be the first person to read my app… should I even bother applying anymore? I know everyone makes mistakes but it was such a massive and absolutely IDIOTIC mistake on my part and now I just want to cry… is there even the tiniest chance that I can still get in?? :(((
It’s a LAC btw and I actually had a good chance of getting in, beforehand…
I don’t think it will take you out of contention. But call/email the person ASAP with an explanation and apologies. And try to set up yet another time to meet.
Send him a short, handwitten note apologizing again and telling him how great the school is. Offer to stop by his office for a few minutes if it would be convenient, but leave it entirely up to him.
And, no, I don’t think your chances of admission are ruined.
He’s leaving to go back to Portland on Saturday and I’m leaving to visit Bowdoin tomorrow and won’t be back until Sunday… I already messaged him saying I’m sorry… But I’m so worried. It was my 3rd choice school I can’t believe I made such a huge mistake
You say you really want to attend, but you also say it is your 3rd choice? Which is it?
If you are borderline for the school, it may negatively impact chances. If you are a strong candidate it should not. But absolutely follow up with a sincere apology. If your gc has a relationship with the school maybe she can send a note as well. Can you do a skype interview at some point?
^Why not both? There are thousands of schools in the country, narrowing it down to 3 hardly seems like you can’t call the third something you “really want to attend.” Especially if the first two are reaches and this one seems like the most likely to work out.
If it were me, I wouldn’t editorialize in my writeup. I would just check off the option that we were unable to meet and explain that there were scheduling difficulties and maybe include that there was an address mixup. At Brown the interviews are largely meaningless so this almost certainly wouldn’t impact you. I can’t speak for this school though.
@wisteria100 like rebeccar said, it’s both! haha, I really would love to attend any of the three. The only reason why it’s third is because I visited the other two and loved the campuses and have never visited THIS school but I still love it!
Don’t forget, you can always Skype! My son had two Skype interviews last year, one with a local guy that just couldn’t work out a good day and time to meet, and another one clear across the country!
