I am a 2015 student graduating this May. I’m interested in journalism and I’ve been accepted to both Mizzou’s school of journalism and also the Newhouse School at Syracuse. I am still waiting to hear back from USC, which is my first choice but I feel like I am unlikely to get in. Basically Mizzou would be about half the cost of Syracuse and has an excellent school, but I know that being accepted to the Newhouse school s a big deal that few walk away from if journalism is their passion and I liked Syracuse when I visited more than Mizzou. Can anyone tell me from personal experience or otherwise if the Newhouse school is worth the $60k price tag compared to Mizzou?
We are struggling with the same decision. We got enough aid from Syracuse to make it comparable to Mizzou but its still somewhat more expensive. Is it really that much better of a program, though?
Our friends in the communications business have told us that all of the top schools ( Newhouse,Mizzou,Northwestern,USC, Arizona etc) are equally good. What matters is the internships and connections you make/ people you meet while doing the internships that will matter as far as getting a good job afterwards.
