Syracuse Newhouse vs. Missouri J-School vs. NYU Gallatin

My daughter has admission from Missouri J-School with scholarship, Syracuse Newhouse with Scholarship and NYU Gallatin with NO scholarship. What is a good bet for a career in communications/journalism? Missouri will work out to be the cheapest of the options and NYU the most expensive. Is NYU worth breaking the bank? What would be your choice?

Congrats to your daughter! All three have similarly excellent journalism programs. What’s the net price of each school?

$28k/year for Mizzou, $40k/year for Syracuse and $70k/year for NYU.

No, NYU is not worth breaking the bank.
Between Mizzou and Syracuse Newhouse, I’d go with Mizzou, but if the 40K are affordable (ie., from savings and income, with the stafford federal loan and/or work study for your daughter), you can spring for private-school amenities at your choice.
Personally I think Mizzou’s the better deal, its journalism program is fabulous, and the weather’s better, so what’s not to like?

Mizzou and Syracuse both have excellent programs and their prices are way better than NYU’s so definitely one of the two. Since Mizzou’s the cheapest, no reason not to choose it unless your daughter really dislikes it or something; Mizzou has the better college town, weather, and it’s program is on par with Syracuse’s (two of the best j-schools in the country).
