MM. Vanilla ice cream is so yummy :) Chance me please

Hi, I'm a rather eager Asian International Student who is really looking forward to college, so chance me for Brown, Cornell, NW, Duke, JHU
I'm looking into a science oriented major but am not sure quite yet.

Standardized Testing:
SAT 1: 2330 (CR 770, Math 800, Writing 760)
SAT II: Chem 800, Bio M 800, Math IIC 800, Will take Physics
ACT: Probably will not take

Grades and classes:
Freshman year: UW 3.8
Sophomore: UW 3.97
Junior: UW 4.0 W 4.25

AP: AP Calculus BC, AP Biology, AP Physics B (Self-study)
Senior Year APs: AP Literature, AP Chemistry, AP Statistics
*Our school limits students to 2 AP classes a year and only lets juniors and seniors take classes.
Class Rank: Our school doesn't rank

ECs: (What I feel to be my weakest point)
Awards:
Various Mu Alpha Theta awards at Nationals and Regionals

Clubs:
Mu Alpha Theta 4 years: President
Science Lab Club 4 years: Secretary
Hitchhikers Guide 1 year
Compassion Club 1 year
Community service club + individual hours outside of school: around 50+ hours will go up
JV Cross Country (pretty sure will be Varsity next year) 3 years

Just a note:
Research opportunities and extracurricular activities are slightly limited at my school as it is a relatively new school. Research outside of school is also hard to come by.

Recs:
Will hopefully be good might be stellar.
Essays: Will be decent but writing isn't my strongest point
Hooks: Nada

Please be blunt and don't be afraid to hurt my feelings.
Otherwise, could you recommend some other schools that might interest me?
Thanks :)

bump… bump…

You’re schedule isn’t extremely rigorous but blame for that goes upon school. Test scores are great, ec’s are very weak. I’d say little to no chance at the ivies, small chance at northwestern, nyu might be a high match.

Ah thanks.
Are there any suggestions you can make?

Suggestions:
First, the classes. You could do CTY AP Courses, take classes at the local university, although I find many of those classes to be intro-to-something types. Search up some challenging online courses, or go the CTY route. Talk to your counselor about it.

EC’s… It’s difficult for me to give you advice on this. Based on your likes, you should try to delve deeply into some area; for example, if you love math, try out for USAMO. There is a plethora of competitions out there, find the ones you are interested in. In Maryland, there is an event called Chemathon. Try to look for something that interests you in the form of compeition in your state, Or, give classes on it.

Oh, and remember to have fun with whatever you do.

Mm. Thanks for your suggestions.
The only problem is that as an international passport holder USAMO isn’t a viable option and any competition in the US is impossible to get to. National competitions where I am at are impossible as they’re in my native language and I’m not that fluent.

Are CTY courses really worth it? Considering I’m gonna be working during the summer and next year will be senior year?
Thanks?
Also other chances opinions would be welcome.

Well you don’t necessarily have to do CTY but you should definitely try to take rigorous courses either in CTY or do online somewhere else. Another option is working during day during your summer, attending school at night. It’s your call.

bumpbumpbump

Do you need financial Aid? because all these colleges are need-aware for internationals

@addy
are there any summer programs as good as cty?
considering they’re well over 2000bucks and credit not given as full year and cannot be taken as a ‘prior year step’ before APs, most of us not-that-rich cannot afford it. :(

@jengajenga117 Fortunately I do not require financial aid so that isn’t an issue.

Note*
During the summer I’m looking into doing some research at a university. Probably chemistry based.
Also I’ll be headed to the US for a week or two for the MAT nationals.

try Grinnell . or aim lower . studying isn’t enough . nuff said .

Brown = get a perfect SAT score and you’re in , with 4 more EC’s .
Cornell = no
NW = maybe a little , idk .
Duke = NO
JHU = eek , possible , but besides SAT score , same as Brown’s requirements . IMPROVE EC’S .

try something like , Lafayette or Trinity .

Start your essay early and apply to many schools as possible.
(Remember! You are Asian and you will be in the toughest pool.)

I know 3 people (Asian International applicants) who got accepted to Northwestern and their stats are similar to yours.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Are my chances for those schools really all that hopeless?
Thanks

You have chances at every top school but it is very hard to predict since you are an Asian International.

I will give you two examples.
Friend 1: Asian
SAT I: 2300+
UWGPA: 4.0
SAT II: 800-790
Rejected or waitlisted from HYP, Caltech, MIT, Chicago, Northwestern
Will attend State U

Friend 2: Asian International
SAT I: 2300+
SAT II: 800-800-800
UWGPA: 4.0
Rejected or waitlisted from Ivies, MIT, Caltech
Will attend Northwestern

Mistake by friend 1: Did not apply to many colleges and did not start his essays early.

I (not an international applicant) did better than my friends because I applied to many schools and I started my essays early and I used EA. (My stat: SAT I: 2380, ACT: 35, SAT II: 800-800-780, 3.96UWGPA from nationally known HS, AP Scholar, NMS, AIME etc). I was accepted from 8 top 20 colleges and I will be attending U Chicago this fall.

APPLY TO MANY SCHOOLS AND START YOUR COLLEGE ESSAYS EARLY.
APPLY TO MANY EA SCHOOLS (OR USE ED IF MONEY IS NOT AN ISSUE).

Good luck to you!

your definitely into northwestern. The next hardest would be johns hopkins, probably 60%-70%. Then, Cornell, 50ish%. Then Brown which is very hard for anyone even with grades liek you (25%)

… Really?
I don’t see how JV XC makes me a standout in anyway…but okay…

just a quick question 20more what do you consider ‘early’ when you say write your admissions essay era?

I started from late July or early August.
