I have searched but I could not find the answer. Does anyone know the admission data for the MMSS program? Number of freshman applicants? SAT 1 and 2 stats?
I’m not sure about the admission rate, but I applied both last year ad this year and both got in. I’m a sophmore and haven’t taken the sat yet. I have 4.0 GPA, some leadership rols and couple extracorricular activities and awards. I think a good recommendation letter is pretty important. Good luck!
I think you are referring to Michigan Maths and Science Scholars program. Since this is a Northwestern forum, OP was referring to Mathematical Methods in Social Sciences
Osuprof is correct. I was looking for recent admission stats (last five years) for the Mathematical Methods program.
Nvm I thought you were talking about Umich
Not sure of the exact admit rate, but to be competitive you’ll generally want 800 Math II, 760+ SAT Math or 34+ ACT math, and some combination of Calc AB/BC/Multi. I entered MMSS two years ago and I’d guess that around half the kids in the class had prior experience with multivariable calc. At least one other student had experience with math well beyond multivariable.
If you don’t get in as an incoming freshman, you still have a solid chance at getting in as a sophomore if you take and do well in one of the two MENU math sequences.
Thanks. My child applied with a 780 Math SAT, 780 SAT2, AP Math BC (5), and taking multivariable and AP stats this year. Just curious about the competition. For your year, Do you recall how soon after regular admissions were released, admissions/rejections to the MMSS program were released?

One additional question—you can pm if appropriate. Would you generally describe the MMSS program and the MMSS students as cooperative (i.e., promoting team learning) or competitive?
Hi! I am in MMSS right now and the general consensus is it’s test-score based. You should have a fairly decent track record in your math classes as well as a high SAT II math score or SAT/ACT subsection.
More importantly is if you can handle MMSS, not if you can make it. As you might see on the website, it’s not too hard to get in. I think getting through it is the hard part. Make sure you have a strong math background if you’re considering it!
Do they release info on ISP student profile/admission stats?
@MomLA2018, I don’t think ISP is too hard to get in to. Every year, they’re asking NU admits to apply to it.
As with MMSS, getting through it (without wrecking your GPA) is the tough part. Think of it as going through a mini-Caltech. ISP classes would go at a 50% higher pace compared to regular NU STEM classes (covering in 2 quarters what is usually covered in 3 quarters). And regular NU STEM classes are already pretty fast-paced and rigorous, typically covering in a quarter what a decent public flagship would cover in a semester.
Does anyone know when the MMSS decisions will be released? I want to commit to a school asap and MMSS is one of the major strong points of NU for me. I know they say 1-2 weeks and it’s unlikely to be this week as they are on spring break.
