Hey guys, what do you do when you can't come up with a mnemonic for a word?

Example: Sanguine and Reticent

Sanguine means cheerfully confident (3rd def); optimistic & the color of blood (1st def)

Reticent means unwilling / reluctant

How would you place a mnemonic for those two. Thanks

Reticent means reluctant/unwilling to talk (primary definition).

Do you try to come up with mnemonics for EVERY word? It seems like it would be more of a burden than an aid to me.

Well, anyway...Sanguine means cheerfully optimistic and red-cheeked. I beleive its etymology has to do with the word for blood in romance languages. Sangre means blood in spanish. If someone is sanguine, then they have blood colored/rosy cheeks, meaning they are cheery and optimistic.

I am not sure what you oculd think of for reticent. I usually just memorize what the word means. When I here reticent I think "REserved, REluctant to talk."

Thanks Flipsta I appreciate the help - mnemonics helps me a lot so I'm trying to use them on words I can't seem to remember time and time again.

for some reason when i see the word reticent, it remids me of taciturn..both are very similar in meanings...i think i learnt both at the same time i guess...

the word sanguine just sounds optimistic to me.

usually when i try to memorize words, i try to remember it with an opposite world that i may have heard of but is not too sure with. works for me but may not be everyone else's cup of tea.

Same with me, Vehement, about the reticent/taciturn association.
