Mock Trial?

Can someone explain to me what you do in Mock Trial? And would you recommend joining it?

Mock Trial is exactly what it's name suggest. Basically you imitate a real trial and compete with other schools. They give you a case and you can choose a position, then you practice and compete.

So when you say "practice", do you mean writing a dialogue for the case or something? And what are the competitions like?

There are four attorneys, two for each side (prosecutor/plaintiff, defense), and six witnesses, three for each side (one expert each). Attorneys have to write/practice opening/closing statements. Witnesses have to learn their role, practice public speaking, and learn to think quickly on their feet.

For the first round of competitions, your team goes to three trials on three different days (this is how we do it in my state, at least). On a given day, you go to the county courthouse and the assigned room. The judge (who is usually a practicing lawyer) comes. There's a pretrial conference for organizational purposes.

Then the trial goes like this:
Plaintiff/prosecutor opening statement
Defense opening statement
Direct & cross examinations of plaintiff witnesses
Direct & cross examinations of defense witnesses
Defense closing
Plaintiff closing
Decision

If you have any other questions, you can PM me. I'm in my third year of mock trial, and I love it. :)

I recommend joining it if you like debating, public speaking, or acting.

Thanks! I'll be sure to PM you.
