Hi, this Wednesday, I have to give a speech to my Model UN Club, in hopes of an officer position. In the speech, I’m supposed to “detail my visions and goals for next year”. I’ve got some ideas, but it would really help if you guys could either shoot me some topics, ask me some questions, and offer me some advice, so that I can incorporate it into my speech. I plan to make it humorous, yet address how I will make a difference in the club. If you could comment anything, I would really appreciate it!
well, what are some changes that you think would improve how your club runs? when you go to conferences, what things are other schools doing that you like and want to implement at your school?
your plans should take into account the size and financial stability of your club, as well as what you know would appeal to members. if you’re running low on membership, talk about what you’ll do in terms of recruitment; if you’re strapped for cash, talk about how you plan to expand fundraising; if information sharing/training isn’t done as effectively as you would like, talk about fixing that (maybe by expanding the club’s social media presence, or by using new training methods designed by you?) if there’s an annual conference that nobody likes going to, maybe research some viable alternatives to it and present them.
definitely interject humor, but don’t make it the backbone of your speech. hoping to hear your ideas & wishing you the best of luck!
Hey chrysalism! Thank you so much for your response! I used some of your quotes in my speech and the students and advisor laughed and liked the creativity. I ended up winning the secretary position! Again, thank you!!
