Mom of bride or groom dress suggestions 2021-2022

@KirbyMom On the Siri site that @blossom linked to…I think this dress fulfills almost everything you are seeking, especially the classic look. I know you want tea length but perhaps they can make it for you in that length:

GRIT, I didn’t think about this, but when I had my dress made, it has 3/4 sleeves in lace. Because mine is a tunic with pants, I have worn it to a black tie affair and have another coming up in January.

My DIL had loose, Lacey sleeves died to her wedding dress.

I’ve now had 6 dresses delivered. Of the two that came yesterday one is a definite no. The other I want to try on for a few people to get opinions. It needs alterations on the top and I’m not sure how doable it will be. What I discovered is I love the fabric. It is a heavy duty stretch jersey which I think works well for my body. The dress is made by Jason Wu, the original price was over 2000 but it was $600 on Saks off 5th. It’s by far the most expensive dress I’ve ordered and double what I want to spend especially since it will need alterations beyond just a hem. It’s sold out but I’ll try to find a link or photo.

I still have several coming from Nordstrom, Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s.

This is not a designer dress but it is navy and jersey. $185 at Dillard’s. Alex Evenings V-neck Embellished Sleeve Knot Front Stretch Matte Jersey. Good luck finding a dress!

Thank you. I’m not familiar with Dillards. I did find the same dress in another color on Amazon so just ordered it. I might have the same issue on the top.
I don’t need designer. The dress I wore for as Mom of bride for my other daughter I loved and got for under $100.00.

Beautiful dress, plus it will accommodate a bra/shapewear easily.

Thanks, that’s lovely!

Need help. Not a mom of the bride or groom - it’s a close friends’ son’s wedding. In San Diego in October, outside wedding, early afternoon, somewhere near the ocean. Dinner is also outside at a different location later that evening. Recommended attire is cocktail.

I ordered this: https://www.macys.com/shop/product/alex-evenings-embellished-sheath-dress?ID=10161425&cm_mmc=OpsEmail-_-240_bops_order_confirmation-_-10161425-_-MB&m_sc=em&m_sb=OpsEmail&m_tp=1N&m_cn=240_bops_order_confirmation&m_pi=MB&m_l=10161425&m_s=OES-EOD2401NMCOM080121&cm_lm_mo64=c3VzaHJheWFAZ21haWwuY29t

But now, am not sure. Seems a bit too much for an afternoon wedding? I think it made me look a bit top heavy - I think I’d prefer the dress be a bit longer (not floor length, but below the knee).

Suggestions on what styles would work better?

Here is what Dillards shows for “cocktail” … a lot of variety

Personally for a day like that I’d want a dress with a jacket or easy ability to wear a sweater at the outside evening dinner.

@arisamp - I love that brand, but that would be too, “sparkly” for me for a daytime wedding. Maybe I am too old school. I mean if it were maybe starting at 4:00 and going into the evening, I would do it.

I think a sleeve or sweater is wise for San Diego.

Any preference on colors? Cut?

Sorry - my reply went to @Colorado_mom instead of just to the thread itself.

@Hoggirl - that’s exactly what I was thinking. A little too sparkly. I think the wedding is at 2pm, but I’ll have to confirm that. I have to say though that the dress feels really good - I understand all the positive reviews for this brand!

No real preferences for colors or cuts. I would like something that hides or at the very least minimizes the slightly rounded tummy :frowning:

October in coastal Ca could be warm at 2pm. It’s in my opinion the nicest month in the beach areas of Ca. What about sending a screen shot to your friend and ask her opinion.
The dress is nice and looks comfortable and a great price. Maybe you can find something similar in a solid with no sparkle.
Places I’ve looked- Amazon, Zappos, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Saks off fifth, Bloomingdales.

@mom60 October has always been my favorite month here in San Diego. The beaches and the weather are gorgeous and the tourists are mostly gone!

Here is a link to Komarov dresses at Dillards. I have seen this brand mentioned on here frequently for weddings.

To me, these strike a nice balance between coastal and evening.

Wonder if folks are planning on changing in between???

Personally, I’ve never changed from wedding to reception and haven’t noticed anyone every doing so either.

It’s nice to just be able to relax between events instead of having to find a place to swap outfits.

I’m sure you can find one outfit that can be suitable for both.
