Or this?
I have changed. I attended a wedding on the beach…wore a fancy sundress, and sandals I could kick off to walk in the sand. Changed into a cocktail length dress with heels to wear to the reception which was in a country club.
Some Komorov dresses have little jackets. If not, bet a nice cashmere wrap. @BunsenBurner can give suggestions about a wrap.
The sheath dress comes in many colors with less bling.

This would be a flexible choice to move from day to night. The blue comes in all sizes.
Here’s a similar dress in silver/grey.

Paging @soozievt this poster is looking for a great dress to wear to a wedding in San Diego in October. Outdoors somewhere near the ocean.
Thanks for all the suggestions. @Marilyn @HImom - I had ordered that same dress in a plum color - but the fit was not great. The lace on the dress and the light jacket was also kind of rough and itchy. That dress is going back
The Komorov dresses look good - I am trying to keep this purchase under 200$ though.
I haven’t attended a beach wedding in Southern California lately but as a Midwesterner I would take the opportunity of a beach wedding during the day in Southern California to buy something a little more “beachy/California/casual in a beautiful way”. Unless of course you know that the wedding will be more formal.
My go to shawl suggestion is Nordstrom tissue weight wrap! They come in multiple colors and can be easily packed into a purse; also, these wraps are quite versatile, for example, can be used as a blanket on a plane! I own at least 5 of them in multiple colors. I’m sitting here in my home office taking a short coffee break from work… a lavender Nordstrom tissue weight wrap is on my lap.
I’ve been to countless coastal Ca weddings with all kinds of attire suggestions. I’ve noticed that what one person defines as cocktail is entirely different than another. I’ve seen cotton dresses at formal weddings. In most of those cases they think they are dressed up. I’ve seen sparkled gowns at a brunch AM wedding. The last wedding I went to I was surprised at the number of women wearing white. I know several men whose idea of dressed is to have long pants on instead of shorts.
Wear what feels good to you. I think you would be fine with your original post if you love it.
Sorry @abasket i didn’t mean to tag you.
I agree—have been to many weddings where people wear the whole gamut of very dressy to super casual. As long as folks are comfortable and not seriously trying to upstage bride & groom, everyone’s happy.
Many of the weddings I’ve attended have been at a more casual setting with reception slightly dressier—folks just went from one to the other. Never noticed anyone change outfits.

@soozievt - thanks for all the links. I am going to have to order a few of these and try them out. Some are unfortunately not available in my size. But I think I have plenty of options.
Dress code is specified as cocktail - but yes, there’s a wide variety of outfits that fit that moniker. I don’t think we’ll have time to change between the ceremony and the dinner - I looked up directions and the two places are about 30 minutes away from each other. Who knows how traffic will be - this is on a Friday afternoon!
@arisamp I am glad you see some that you want to try out! Let us know if something works out!
Some of us can give you a better idea of traffic if you let us know the venues or at least the general locations.
@Marilyn - the wedding is in La Jolla ( a park there) and the dinner is near Liberty Station. They have another event planned on Saturday near Liberty Station, so all of us are staying in hotels close to there. We will need to drive up to La Jolla for the wedding and then back down again for dinner.
Yes, traffic down the 5 from La Jolla on a Friday afternoon will be heavy. So allow extra time, or at least be prepared for some stop and go. But once you’re near Liberty Station, you may have a few minutes to stop in your hotel and freshen up. Most traffic there will be people going to the highway.
TJ Maxx online. I personally didn’t want to spend $$$$$$$ for a dress to wear once. I found a great discounted brand name one at TJ.
