Hi! I am a fiance major who is having my final round interviews with Citigroup Houston office next week. I am really excited but apprehensive about it. i've been preparing for the interview all winter break and would appreciatie if you have any specific advice you could share with me to help me do well with the upcoming interview. thxs

How are you preparing for your interview? What are some example topics and ettiquetes you are going over?

Lot's of things...Vault to finance interviews and Citigroup, brushing up on my accounting and finance classes, studying from there website, trying to network, reading up on the energy industry, and working on my behaviorhal responses. It's a short interview 3-5....no dinner or anything. I plan to practice with some friends this week as well. What do you think?

i forgot to mention i've been praying a lot for this job too and having a lot of other ppl pray for me as well :)

citi, you said not to listen to that book, but you haven't worked in the IB field. I've spoken to people who have said the book is dead on about the lifestyle (they've done it) and they said it sucks to be an ibanker after the glitz wears off. You sound just like they did in the beggining of the book: overly optimistic.

Good luck! :) hehe

i mean, everyone starts to get bored of their job once it's been a year or two and ur doing the similar day to day bs. In addition to this, ibanking is a very tough job...that must add to it alot.

khan, the book makes it seem more than just a tough job. The guys are out of shape, tired all the time, and never get laid. That is no fun

what do you think school is like..

most work isnt every really fun...just that you have to find whats more enjoyable than other crap.

what do i think school is like? I know at school, it's not hard to stay in shape, not be tired all the time, and to get laid. That's a horrible atttiude too khan. I find some work lots of fun.... you just have to enjoy it and it has to not kill you.

no it really isnt, yeah you got off lucky i guess, but when your spending 12+ hours a day just doing straight work i think it isnt too hard sympathise with an ibanker's heavy workload life. I never said it was extremely messed up, but i mean school work for mot of my day/night isnt exactly my idea of fun. Even if i somewhat enjoy the material.

do not even try to compare real work with school work, there is no comparison. really, there isnt, its just the truth. school is cake and you always get to see your friends. when you skip work, you get fired. fall asleepo at work, you get fired. perform like you just want to get by (like you want to only get a C course grade), you get fired. and schopol doenst feed you or pay the bills.

where as most good univeristy's have accpetance rates of around 20%, a truly god job has an acceptance rate of around 5-10%

Thanks for the posts...

It is true I haven't begun the job yet and am still somewhat of an outsider in the industry, but let me give you some reasons why someone may subject themselves to such extreme work environments for most of their next couple years:

1) exit opportunities...want to know the best road to Harvard Business School/London Business School? (investment banking is one of them...unless you are the entrepreneurial type, which works too)

2) $$$ (it's no shock if I tell you that over $100K is going to be yours if you get an analyst position...at least it shouldn't because with bonus that is around the average...by year two you can come close to double if you're good)

3) industry credibility (want to work in London? Sydney? San Francisco? Chicago? etc. ...work for an investment bank and they will take you there after you put in the hours and pay your dues)

4) working with best and brightest (this year when I start my job, I will be allocating over $100 mm to different entities...that number is actually conservative- where else will you do this?)

Good luck guys and keep your eyes on the goal, whatever that may be for you.
