Out of curiosity, does anyone know how they determine the top 5% or whatever it is now? I mean there's probably not a formula but is is more scores, GPA, etc? I know for some honors programs essays are fairly important and for some the high school record is more important.

for freshman, it is top 5% percentile on test scores and class rank (if one is provided)

when applying for sophomore admission it is class rank in wm class

Are you sure Monroe is largely stats based? D's stats are well above someone else she knows (not from her school) who got the Monroe letter. She has other stuff going for her too, so she's not just good stats. She's gotten likely letters from Duke/UNC/UVA - Echols. The only thing we have ever received from W&M since she applied is an e-mail saying application was received and they would let us know if anything was missing. Have others received other application completeness e-mails/letters or computer access info (like many other schools send to access application info on l ine) from W&M? It's fine if she didn't make Monroe, I'm just wondering if we should have received something else at some point to indicate ap was OK.

My D also only got the 1 e-mail. Her stats appear to well in range for the Monroe but she also did not receive it. I'm wondering it it because she is OSS.

If I haven't gotten an email or letter, should I assume I'm not Monroe? Is there still a chance I might get one?

yeah i called them today (OOS) and I asked when we should hear about the Monroe, and they said it would come with the acceptance letter.
