<p>Thanks to all who contributed to our liberal-colleges research. Now we're looking for your picks for "Preppy" colleges and universities, where Polo prevails over piercings or Topsiders trump tattoos. Please don't parse "preppy" to death. First-blush responses are fine.</p>

<p>Lake Forest College, Rollins College, Dartmouth - I went to Lake Forest College (where approximately one-third of the students had come from New England Boarding Schools, or private schools) - I believe the same could be said for Rollins College. I just visited Dartmouth, and it had such a preppy look and feel, and I mean that in the very best sense.</p>
<p>Princeton
When you see someone wearing a pink polo, checkered lime green shorts and sandals, no word but “preppy” comes to mind. But really, when I went on a visit, I saw many pastel polos and got a feel for a pretty preppy atmosphere.</p>

<p>Penn- Guys (espec upper classmen) more inclined to wear khakis or dress trousers than jeans- Alligators on polos abound. Girls very into Lilly clothes and designer purses.</p>
<p>Rollins College</p>
<p>It’s a small private LAC where daddy’s money rules. Though a lot of students are here on scholarships/aid, there is a very sizable “rich kid” population, and the rest of the students try to keep up. Predominant brands include Vineyard Vines, Lilly Pulitzer, Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton and the like. Lacoste is occasionally worn, but hardly anyone wears lesser brands like Abercrombie and Hollister. Most common kind of cars include BMWs and Mercedes. A very nice FL campus means everyone tries to look their best, especially when studying by the pool or going to the beach. You will see kids walking around in their pink polo, baby blue suit jacket, and a pair of shorts with whales all over them (Vineyard Vines’ logo). Oh and loafers too. About 50% hails from out of state, mostly from the northeast, and this is where much of the preppiness comes from. </p>

<p>Clemson
The preppiness factor is seen at football games where girls wear Lily Pulitzer sundresses and gold sandals while guys sport the Polo shirt. Plaids, pastels and beachwear abound as do the designer sunglasses on a strap (Oakley’s on a croakie). Add in the required white dresses for all sorority functions and Clemson rates a top preppiness factor!
How do I know this?..who do you think pays for all those white dresses?</p>
<p>Connecticut College - Our campus tour oozed “preppiness”. You know it when you see it. And it was not just the tour guides, there was a strong preppy factor in the lookers as well. Preppy outfits, and preppy sports like crew, sailing, and lacrosse.</p>
<p>That said, I did notice some diversity and “crunchiness” in the student body, and certainly in the curriculum, so it is not maxed out prep.</p>
<p>Pepperdine University
Conservative Christian school with abundant displays of wealth. AND it’s in freaking Malibu, California.
I visited just for kicks while I was on vacation. The campus was gorgeous, but perhaps a little too glamorous…</p>

<p>Furman University, Univeristy of Richmond and Gettysburg College stood out to me as the preppiest students I have seen.</p>
<p>UNC-Chapel Hill, UVA, any SEC school.</p>
<p>I’m know this because I go to UNC, live in the South, and know the SEC.</p>

The khaki pants, popped collar… You name it</p>
<p>“Crunchiness” is a reference to the sensibilities associated with people who eat granola.</p>
<p>As in “crunchy granola type of place”. For examples, see the “Liberal Colleges” thread. (although not all liberal colleges are “crunchy”, but that’s a topic for that thread…)</p>
<p>The University of Alabama…</p>
<p>Because many boys (not all) dress in a preppy kind of way…plaid shorts, khaki shorts, khaki pants, polo shirts (some popped), Rainbows in the summer, Sperry’s when it’s cooler, Oakleys are hanging, LOL. (That said, non-preppy kids don’t feel pressured to dress the same way.) And, the girls look very cute! Always dressed nicely. Popular brands are everywhere - Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Coach bags, LV, etc.</p>
<p>These are really good-looking kids. </p>
<p>I’ve been on the Alabama campus many, many times.</p>
<p>Oh, and some of the profs wear argyle vests. LOL</p>

<p>The University of Georgia. Thousands of cute kittens die every day from the popped collars. Heavy, heavy Greek influence. Guys wear jackets and khakis to the football games one the weather gets a little cooler (it’s easier to hide the flask in the jacket).</p>
<p>Plaids and polos on the guys, pink and green on the girls. Many girls don’t leave for class without their faces on. (I had a roommate who got up a 5 am to get ready for her day.)</p>
<p>How I know: attended there in the late 70s/early 80s, have been to Athens a few times since, niece (senior in HS this year) visited and reported the same thing. Wanted to borrow my hot pink floral wrap-around skirt if she attends. (!)</p>
<p>Union College in NY</p>
<p>Polos popped all around with lots of Lacoste and a lot of “new” money prep</p>
<p>Duke and Vanderbilt for sure, i can’t believe no one has mentioned these colleges yet</p>
<p>Based on visits, agree with previous posters on Furman and Union, but Washington & Lee is the preppiest by far. I remember it being so back in the 80s as well, so I guess it is more like tradition there.</p>
