More Orientation Questions

Alright I am getting ready to register for orientation and I just have a few questions before I select a date.
1. If I do a mid-July orientation will I be closed out of any classes?
2. Is there a way to prevent having night classes?
3. What time does orientation end on the third day?
4. How hard are the language placement exams?

They say that they stagger it so that classes are available throughout all of orientation, but for nothing more than piece of mind, I'd try and do it early. mid-July isn't the end of the world though.

What do you mean by night classes?

If you are not auditioning for the marching band, I believe you'll go until 12 on the 3rd day. If you are, auditions start at 2:30 and go until they are done.

How hard are placement exams....I wouldn't think about it that way. Just do your best, and it will place you in the correct class.

Let me clarify what I mean by night classes. I have a friend who goes to another large state school. Last semester she had a class that met twice a week from 7-9pm. I would like to have classes in the morning or afternoon. Does Michigan have such night classes? If so, can I avoid them?

yeah...you can avoid that easily. The only classes I've ever heard of meeting that late are like film classes and w/e that have screenings. If anything, you could have a section at that hour, but its not likely.

PS you can go to lsa.umich.edu/cg and look up courses and sections now to get an idea of when classes are.

1) Yes. Many classes close even by mid to late June. Some you can still get overrides for, others you may not be able to.
2) Yeah, go early. Very few sections are late at night, but if there's a super popular class you want to take, that may be the only one left if you have a really late orientaiton.
3) I remember leaving around noon or so.
4) Not hard at all. I know many people that got a 3 on AP foreign language tests that passed out of all of their language requirement. They're FAR easier than AP.
