More than one merit scholarship?

My son was recently accepted (1/29) to USC. Based on what I have read here on CC, we had hoped that he would be interviewed for Trustee/Presidential scholarship. Today (2/6) he received a letter telling him that he is getting a Deans scholarship (1/4 tuition). Although we are certainly happy, I was a bit surprised that he was not considered for the bigger awards, as his best friend is being considered for Trustee, and my son's stats are higher than his.

The only reason I could think of is that my son (if he attends) will be a 5th generation USC legacy. Is it possible that he may be in line to receive another scholarship (such as Half Century) as well as Deans?

Does anyone know if USC ever awards more than one merit scholarship to a student?

Thanks for any information!

ProudDadofTwo, yes a student can have more than one merit scholarship. However, he would have to have applied for a number of them. For example, since your son is a legacy, did he apply for the Scions? Others are various Alumni and Trojan League scholarships. I am not familiar with the Half Century though. I hope your son is in line for that one, 5th generation is impressive!

Thanks for the information, Sequoia. I know for certain he applied for Scions and Alumni. I will ask him what others he applied for.
