I would just like to establish a thread for those interested in the Morehead-Cain! Strictly for encouragement and informational purposes! I am excited for the December 3rd decision :)

Thanks for starting this thread. I’ve been getting really antsy as the decision nears. Hopefully, Dec. 3rd will bring some great news.

whoa i didnt even realize that Morehead Cain made decisions on Dec 3. i thought it was way later. but i dont even know if i hav a shot at this. A UNC alumni told me that winners have to devote a lot of their high school years to volunteer work.

December 3rd is the date on the website that indicates when the semifinalists will notified. And in retrospect, a more suitable name would have been “Morehead-Cain Hopefuls 2011” :)

do only semifinalists get an email?

I don’t know much about the Morehead process, but I would expect that all applicants would be notified as to whether or not they were semifinalists.

I would assume that those who do not make the cut will be notified in some professional message (ie. Thank you for submitting your application, however we…) I will be looking for an email. Should I looking for post instead? 5 days :)

I believe they send emails to those who make it, at 3 PM EST … but that is only going on past methods. Out of state are notified on Dec 3 if they are invited to the finalist weekend. In state are notified Dec 3 if they will be invited for regional interviews. The only later deadline, I believe, is Dec. 17th for those who have been pulled out of the general admission pool.

Thank you! That was most informative :)

nerves are setting in… tomorrow is the day :)

Good luck everyone!

5 PM is the notification time tomorrow via email, according to the website!!!

Snail mail? Thick letter from Morehead-Cain today. Surely I can steam it open and seal it back before the son gets home?..;-)

Snail mail was good news for those with mail today.

^That just made me nervous. It’s almost 5, and my the mailman hasn’t come yet…hoping for a thick envelope

I received a small envelope in the mail today from the foundation. Unfortunately, I was not named to be a semifinalist. I extend my congratulations to all of those who make the cut, and wish you the best of luck. Hope to meet everyone next year in Chapel Hill!

It has been a [short] pleasure :)

I was one of the lucky few chosen as a semi-finalist…I’m still in shock.

Thanks for the kind words RobinsonI - maybe we just might meet at Chapel Thrill!

If I applied to Robertson I’m ineligible for this Morehead one right?

I applied to UNC on Oct 31 so I obviously didn’t know you had to nominated for this, but on the website they said they do select some applicants who weren’t nominated from the EA pool. I haven’t received anything though–I’m also an out-of-stater so I think that hurts me a lot.

Not necessarily, but if you applied for both the Morehead and the Robertson at Chapel Hill then you would probably be ineligible.
Unfortunately, only certain OOS students are eligible for the Morehead, and as far as I know, they aren’t given any less priority or consideration than NC applicants.

so what should semi-finalists expect? my letter says more details to come on dec. 13…anyone have the lowdown on what exactly goes on at regional interview?
