Morrill Scholars Applicants Class of 2024

My daughter was awarded a Prominence scholarship. She received notification
via email this evening 2/8 at 6 pm. (She applied in late Sept/early October and was admitted on Jan 29th - we are OOS). In her email, she has been invited to interview for the distinction scholarship in two weeks.

@nicholasallen would you be willing to share the gist of your essay? Iā€™m wondering what it takes to get this award. Iā€™m a guessing there is a range of things, and examples would help. Does anyone know if any caucasians from middle class families have ever received this award based on service and advocacy work theyā€™ve done? I donā€™t mean to offend anyone, Iā€™m just not totally clear on how winners are chosen and any elucidation would be helpful! Thank you.

@Pelorider Of course! I do just want to say I am Caucasian from an upper middle class family, however, I was born with a rare congenital heart defect. I wrote my essay about how growing up and living with a heart defect has influenced my character. I also wrote about how I am a wish kid that received a wish from the Make a Wish Foundation. I explained how I made it my mission to be an advocate for other wish kids and make a wish in general. I also talked about how from this experience, I joined a new club at my school that promoted diversity and inclusion and how I was elected to a leadership position on the club and how I wished to use my previous experience with make a wish to make a positive impact in my school and community with my leadership position on the club. But Iā€™m sure if you talked about how you were an advocate for a certain group and explained specifically why you feel especially connected and devoted to that group and stuff I could see that being very good.

Does anyone know if thereā€™s a FB group for the Morrill Scholars program? Iā€™m working on my LC application and I wanted to join a FB group to find a roommate. Thanks!

I just received the Prominence scholarship yesterday around 4 oā€™clock. I was accepted on 1/30 for engineering. Im OOS, African American, 3.6 GPA, 29 ACT, IB Diploma Candidate, strong recs, pretty good ECs. Honestly, did not expect itā€¦

Hey I also applied for the LC! I havenā€™t seen any groups for LC roommate finding, but if you find something, let me know!

congratulations. We were surprised to receive this too and now Ohio State is a real contender for us as a top choice.

Will do!

@nicholasallen thank you for sharing and for doing such great work for your community! Congratulations. Still no word for my daughter who was accepted in mid-January, so Iā€™m guessing itā€™s a no for her. She has done some great things, but Iā€™m sure many other students have as well. All the best to you!!

Hey everyone, I've been a silent viewer of this thread up until now. I just wanted to ask if anyone has gotten any kind of an update recently? From looking at previous messages saying they got their results, it seems like it's usually announced on the weekend sometime so I've been anxiously waiting for each weekend, but I haven't received any news whatsoever yet.

I actually contacted someone who received the scholarship last year and asked when she heard from them, and she said she got her announcement mid-March. Just wanted to add this because I saw some people saying that they don't think they/their child will be receiving the scholarship since it's taking so long to get any news about it. :)

Congrats to everyone who got the scholarship. I was recently accepted into OSU on Feb 20th. Hoping I get in! I wonder how long itā€™ll take to get the acceptance/rejection letter. Iā€™m OOS and it would really help. OSU is my top school as of right now! Iā€™ll probably be in the last batch with everyone else. Here to hoping mid-Late March comes soon!

Hi! OSU releases decisions on Fridays so thatā€™s when Iā€™d be looking out for an e-mail. Did your friend get accepted to the program mid-march or is that when she heard that she got rejected?

She got accepted to the program mid-March

D20 just got notified of the distinction scholarship award today. So shocked, excited makes this our number one choice now.

Congrats! Iā€™ll be anxiously waiting, hopefully I get notified as to whether I got it or not today ?
If not, then I guess Iā€™ll just have to keep anxiously waiting like I have been anyways

Hello everyone,

Anybody else still waiting on any news? Also, do you guys think that the coronavirus is going to be causing any delays in scholarship announcements with campuses closing down and all that?

@maddiepaige1234 I am still waiting as well. All I got was a letter from the offices of diversity and inclusion. Nothing about Morrill :(. Really hoping I at least get Excellence. I applied late though so I doubt it.

Last year, there were some applicants accepted into the program around March 20th. Perhaps some notifications will be going out this weekend.

My son is still waiting. Contacted their office they told him that he will be notified by the end of March if he received it or not. He was accepted in Nov.

I was accepted in November, as well, and Iā€™m still waiting. Iā€™m assuming weā€™ll be told this weekend, unless this all gets delayed with covis-19 happening ?
